Getting a little sick of xbox live

First and formost, I often disconnect while downloading something, and while browsing the marketplace.

Next is more to do with Modern Warfare 2, every half hour I play, I get 3 messages about boosting, it really gets on my nerves. I just got a message that asked me if I wanted to win 20 dollars. Seriously, leave me alone people.

Lastly is people that sing Enrique Igllesias while playing Modern Warefare 2...

Anyone else have similar problems and found solutions?

Edit: Should have mentioned I use a wired connection.

The disconnect problem seems odd, but the rest can be fixed with profile settings and muting. I mute all the time, and it's awesome. Just mute 'em. Don't have to say anything, just mute. No problem. Or, if I'm not playing with anyone on my friend's list, I just don't wear a mic. That's also very easy.

But you should be able to set profile settings so that only those who are on your friends list can message you (I think). If not, you can do what I do: Report ever single one of them when they do message me about it.

I don't mind XBL. For the most part, I've had good experiences. There is always the odd jerk, sure, but I've got a great group of guys that I play with. If they aren't on, I usually just play single player, or don't wear a mic.

Why the agro? It's not like he is talking about something you run yourself and is making an affront to your honour.
As Yahtzee put it, Xbox doesn't need defending, they are big boys.

To be fair the people thing isn't really Xbox Lives fault.

People are people, you'll encounter the good as much as the bad, the bad are just more memorable and in your face about it.

On topic. I have just started Xbox live myself, I run L4D2, and haven't hand many connection issues (though I have been dropped at odd times and get massive lag at others, still trying to figure out why). You do get pricks but that happens all the time (had it on the PS2 network with battlefield 2).
Just give it some time and if you are using wireless double check that tehre isn't an issue with your wireless connection (as can happen).

Cause maybe he likes xbox live?
Also, you're Yahtzee quote is inaccurate. He was talking about Nintendo.

For the MW2 issue just simply mute the other players or join a private party. (though you wont be able to play certain game types) If you get those spam messages, just simply report them or come up with a clever response.

Now for the disconnection, you may want to check your system or network settings. If the disconnection still occurs, I recommend contacting XBL support for that.

You meet people like that everywhere...

"I can be your hero baby
I can kiss away the pain
I will stand by you forever
You can take my breath away "

See!

Maybe because he should at least check to make sure its not his fault before blaming people.
And theres a difference between defending xbox and attacking someone who's (possibly) not taking responsibility for their problems.

I'm planning on getting an Xbox 360 as soon as I open up enough of a gap in my gaming schedule to make room for it (which could still admittedly take years) but I will NEVER play a game on Xbox Live. I'm just not willing to dip my toes into that stagnant, foul-smelling pond. If I'm going to play online games, they'll be on PC.

Not really lives fault as it's been said so much as connection issues and people also using the same service. Expect abuse of services whenever they are offered dude. Also keep an I on your connection and network status. Most of lives problems can be solved by checking your own network and provider. Live doesn't often screw up from my expierence.

It actually is Live's fault because they charge you for the service but you just connect P2P rather than putting the money towards keeping servers up. Even if your connection is fine, the host's poor connection can cause the problem.

O come on-do YOU mute 12 million MW2 players before you start a game? First you have to hear something annoying-THEN you can mute ppl.

Right, to address your issues in order:
1) I've never experienced that myself, check your connection as it's more likely to be your broadband than XBL.
2) I've only recieved one of those messages - just use 'block communications'. If all else fails report whoever sent you the message.
3) There is a mute toggle you know. I use it often and with great satisfaction.

wait you have to pay for internet you all ready pay for?
so its 15 dollars a month for xbox live and 79 dollars for a wireless adapter?
Then you have to deal with the notorious 11 yearolds on xbox live

What a ripoff.

In order of your problems.

1. Yeah, that's your connection, not X-Box LIVE. Doesn't matter if it's wired or not, I think.
2. Just delete the messages before reading them or simply choose to ignore the person who sent you the message.
3. The Mute Button is a wonderful invention...

As for me, no, I haven't had any problems in my on-off LIVE experience. Sure, I've ran into the odd twat now and then[footnote]Looking at the guy who actually plugged in a mic just so he could insult my user name...[/footnote] but for the most part, I've had a nice experience, chatting with random Americans and enjoying fairly lag free gaming. Apart from a couple round of Halo 3 where it was lag-bloody-tastic.

If your NAT is moderate or strict then your internet connection is the problem.

For the rest, I'm sorry but you'll just have to get over it. I've never problems with people though.
