Ok first off no "Guns are bad don't get a gun" in this topic I already own one and am getting a second one.

I am planning on buying a new gun sometime in the next few weeks and I need some help. I'm still unsure if I want to get a new shotgun or a rifle. I could use recommendations for both. If a shotgun I want it to be a 12 gauge that can chamber 3 inch shells to match the other shotgun my family owns so that we can share ammo. If a rifle I want it to be a 22LR because ammo for that cheap.
If people have any recommendations it would be much appreciated.

What are you using the gun for? That's the main question that would factor into my decision.

This is pretty much needed information: It is quite impossible for us to recommend a shotgun or a rifle, without first knowing what it is going to be used for. Hunting? Target shooting? Wall decoration? etc.

if i get the 22 its just for target shooting. Mostly the same with the shotgun but I would like the option to hunt with it because our Ithaca model 37 isn't good for hunting.

So you know you are going to get a gun, but not which type. Shouldn't you have already worked thisout for yourself. Anyway, go with whatever makes you feel more American.

Well for a rifle I would recommend a ruger 22L. I have one and its done me well. Relable, cheap ammo, and fun to shoot.
