I already have a topic like this set up in the gaming forum, but I have gotten barely a response, so im just spreading the topic around, hoping I can get an answer for it soon =/

So, im trying to get a new laptop, but I dont really know that much about all the specifics and inside stuff, but from the info i got from my friend, and other people...they said i should try and get one with:2.2GHz Core 2 Duo Processor, 4 GB RAM, and 512 MB Nvidea Geforce 8800-9800 or other ting like that, or an ATI Radeon Mobility 3800-4800...

and from my search at stores today, i couldnt find one anywhere close to that =/ but the best one that i found was this...

Asus K40IN Laptop
- 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
- Windows Vista Home Basic
- 4GB DDR2 800 MHz SDRAM
- 14" HD (1366x768) LED
- NVIDIA GeForce G102M, with 512MB VRAM
- Up to 320GB hard drive

So I just want to know, for my gaming purposes, is will a machine like that be able to play something like Mass Effect, or Portal and Team Fortress 2?

Your help will be most appreciated =]

Probably it will. I'd check and make sure that the games are compatible with that particular graphics chipset, though. The ones that are installed on laptops are pretty different from the ones in desktops and not all of them play nice with DirectX.

Sometimes it may just be a few specific games that don't work but other times it's just not possible to play anything but very old games on a laptop.

The processor could be better, but it's a solid looking machine. I'm not good with the crazy numbering used for laptop graphics cards, but I think that one is a good one.

Ok will maybe not Mass Effect then, but maybe at least Oblivion...I just want this to be an all-around laptop for me, one that I can use for my college course, and still have as a self-use laptop for games, movies, internet, etc. ...I was so frustated with the one i have now, cause i couldnt even play the KOTORs, or Oblivion or any of the other games that i could on my 6 year old desktop =/ (cause of the integrated intel graphics thing in this laptop x-x)

edit: and yes i will be getting the Windows 7 upgrade

It will likely play the Valve titles but probably not Mass Effect. If you are trying to find something better. I recommend buying it through the manufacturer's website. Thats how I got my 2.2 ghz dell 3gbs of ram 512ram nvidia 8600 gpu It is almost two years old but it's great. The only BIG problem is: laptops overheat and laptops don't like heat and it makes the graphics lag so get a fan or a cooling pad for it; thats how I melted the first motherboard.
