Hello fellow Escapists. Myself and a few friends have just made a Youtube channel called NeedsMoreSoap. It essentially consists of us just playing videogames while providing commentary (throwing a glass bottle into an ocean of glass bottles and all that), and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for how to get the word out and increase the viewing audience as well as invite readers to check it out. Thanks for reading, comments are welcome.

make the vids because you enjoy making them, that comes first, everything else doesnt really matter as long as your not racist or anything along those lines

Well there's like 15,000 youtube channels with the exact same thing. But just start making content. Maybe put a link on your profile, but other than that, there's not much you can do except hope for the best

You could always make threads on here that have something to do with one of your channel's videos, like a general summary of what you thought of the game you guys played with a link to the video, or even your take on an issue that a game might raise, again with a link to the related video on your channel.

You could also do polls on here for the let's plays that Escapists would like you guys to do, that might create some hype for your channel.

Before I give you suggestions, I must know what makes your channel special, there's thousands of channels that are literally doing the same thing as you are.

At present time it's looking like a split of co-op gameplay and old-ass PS1 games done by a friend. Individual stuff may come up later, but baby steps and all that. Meant for entertaining commentary rather than informative walkthroughs.

Are you a group of people that play different games? Like, one group of people will play Borderlands 2, another will be playing Xcom and so forth?

A good way to get well known is to contribute to larger channels. Animators/musicians have been getting a lot of publicity for making content for Yogscast, Game Grumps, etc. So yeah, do something similar.

If you can't, do something like what Overusedname has done. He makes videos where he just generally talks about symbolism in games and posts them in the 'User Reviews' forum right here in the Escapist. Doing that has earned him quite the following here.

If you're going to do that, make sure it's an actual review/analysis that you post here or else it will be removed. Once users have seen your video they might visit your channel, where they can see all your playthroughs. Good luck!

Sort of yes. Mostly it will be a rotating team doing things like Left 4 Dead, possibly Borderlands, and other 4 player co-op games we can think of, other people will be doing solo runs.

How's the humor? Or will it be serious playthroughs? Also, when will you link the channel?

Humor is mostly deadpan, surreal, occasionally going a bit zany. It's off to kind of a rough start since one of the guys has no means to record other than a flip camera and a television, but everything else is done with fraps and/or a capture card.

Here's the channel, live as of last Monday.

Put out high quality content consistently. I stress the consistency part. Seriously, make videos as though there were 50,000 people watching even if you only get a hand full of views. Keep doing this and your audience will come. It will take time and may seem pointless but just keep making content.
