And I have no idea what's going to happen. My dentist and all other doctors/orthodontists/dermatologists I've ever had never tell me anything other than that something will happen sometime, if I'm that lucky. Have any of you gotten fillings before? How long does it take, and how much does it hurt?

Never had fillings before, so sorry I can't offer any advise or help.

Always been vigilant about my teeth, but that hasn't stopped my canines from turning a bit yellow.

They numb your gums, which only hurts a tiny bit and not for a long time. The rest is just noise.

There's usually Anesthetic to take away any pain.

I never use anesthetic because I'm a big manly man I have a fear of needles and high pain tolerance. It's not that bad really.

That tiny drill-like tool they use to scrape your teeth is the most annoying thing I have ever experienced. The sound makes me cringe sometimes.

Other then that, it was fine. Only takes about 30-45 minutes. An hour at most. For me, anyway.

Yeah I had a filling.

It wasn't as bad as I'd feared.

~The most annoying bit is to wait for that last bit of your lip to stop being numb. -.-

The only bit that hurts is the needle for the anaesthetic, the rest is fine except for a slight jaw ache from having your mouth open so long.

If it hurts at all when they start doing the drilling tell them and they should give you another injection.

I've had very many fillings because I didn't take care of my teeth as a kid so im going on a lot of experience here. I really regret not taking care of my teeth though.

Oh, and have fun drinking anything if they numb you up. Hope they just numb one side though, I got fillings on both sides, but they only did it one at a time for me, so I ended up having to drink with the opposite side... awkward but fun!\
Well that's just great, because I'm also getting them on both sides.

Damn it, I hate those needles. It seems like they make them a whole lot thicker than they need to be.

I've had A LOT of fillings.
It's not that bad. They numb your gums, but it only hurts a bit.
After your gums are numb, you shouldn't feel any pain.

The only REALLY annoying part is waiting for lip to stop being numb.
It's also REALLY annoying trying to eat with your mouth numb.
I always bite my cheek...

I have several fillings, it really is not that painful, they just numb you gum with a needle, but it does not hurt that bad.
The most annoying part to me is the vibration of the drill which just tingles a little bit.
The procedure does not take that long probably about 6 or 7 minutes

The numbing part is really the worst, and that's likely only because the people who did mine sucked at numbing. They tried twice, and I still wasn't completely numb.

Anyway, even with partial feeling, it wasn't all that bad. The entire thing took about an hour.

When they gave me anesthetic, I thought it would be like when I got my teeth pulled: still really uncomfortable and pretty painful. Hell, I was still waiting for them to put the fillings in, when they started taking everything out and saying they were done.
I actually got some teeth pulled a long while back, and if that was worse, then this should be really easy. And for some reason when they pulled my teeth, they were crunching and crackling and it was really uncomfortable.

Yeah, this.

It's not as bad as you think it's going to be. Mine only took around half hour to do.

i ve had one filling, if its an injection to numb you that hurts, like alot, they're stabbing your gums with a stick1 the rest actually feels rather relaxing, for some strange reason.

You can get local anaesthetic. I have had fillings lots of times, and I always say yes to the anaesthetic, I tried without it once, and that was too uncomfortable.

It doesn't really hurt much, slightly uncomfortable, as if someone is pinching you; only in your teeth. The worst part is that you'll have your mouth full of equipment, and you aren't really able to swallow. I often get these pools of water in the back of my mouth, and then I have to fight the urge to swallow. [Fellatio joke]. But you shouldn't worry too much about that, they have stuff to suck up the water.

Edit: Funny story: I actually bit down on the drill while the dentist was working once. That rather hurt. Don't do that.

That's good. I've gotten injections before so I know what it's like.

Apple sauce. Apple sauce. The gift to the tooth drilling victim.

I can certainly answer that one, I've had three put in and will in all probability need a 4th
[sub]No not because I don't take care of my teeth, I have hypocalcification[/sub]

It shouldn't hurt, you get a local anaesthetic. It does feel weird, a little unpleasant, but it's not horrific.

Oh and it might smell bad if they have to drill your tooth a little. Again it isn't painful but doesn't smell too good.
