I remember a thread not too long ago about this, but I searched high and low and even extended my "give a shit" meter to 9 pages but couldn't find it so here I am.
What I know:
I need to learn a programming language,
I have already organised people to blame when this inevitably fails, (I have to call them friends when they are in earshot)
I have a artist of sorts but all I can think of is the pain-staking "picture and scan" way of drawing which will take a while.(in other words alternative art creation ideas would be good.)
What I need to know:
What programming tool I should start with and how to access it and such,
general points I may have missed out.
As said above, chances are this will go tits up but it's still all experience for me later and for the time being I'm dedicated to it and willing to stick it out. "Dont question mah fortudite...ity!" as a retarded Cartman would say(kind of)
(>*.*)>))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))(Separator)
Idea pitch(It's kind of unfleshed at the moment but that's why it put it here): Your welcome I didn't make two threads
This is intended more or less to be a proper game sold to consoles and such, not one of the ones I plan on making, although I have a few ideas for a flash version.
Name: The Immortal (chances are it's taken)
Setting: Stone-age through to futuristic fantasy
Type of game: Free-choice RPG, Fantasy/sci-fi. (Second person default angle)
Backstory: When the world began the great creators chose a favoured of the four races to become their champion and to change the world in the way they saw fit. Now at the dawn of civilisation, you have been awoken by your master, now is the time for the champions to clash!
In a less stupid way: at the start of the world you get picked by one of the four creators (gods) to become their champion through way of playable introduction and kick-ass cutscene. Thousands of years later you get woken up and told it's time to play.
The point: Basically the ultimate free-choice game, the bigger parts of this would be: being a lone wanderer, traveller with a group, emperor and all things inbetween, the other thing is that the other 3 will be changing the world as well and you can choose to ally them or attack them or anything. places will be directly impacted through what you do and how you act(morality systems however always fail, I'll tackle that later) that could range from setting the world alight to helping those stone-age elves (or whatever it is) take over the world and build massive monuments.
Morality stand-in: Your creator is gone but you have a "divine honour" system in which you become more powerful by spreading the word pretty much. (Bonus points if you see the "break free" possible plot-option coming before I even have to type it)
Wait wouldn't being a champion of a god make the game too easy?: No the "divine honour" is a fluffed up kind of levelling up in which you become bigger and better as you go but so do your enemies as the increase in technology from rocks to lazers.
The other immortals: As said you can pretty much do whatever with them, I plan for them to be built off a sophisticated AI which makes it's own decisive decisions, you may encounter them from the start you may never see them in person.
Combat: God of war/Spartan: Total Warrior style hack and slash possibly not quite as gory, of course as the game progresses you may advance in tech as well meaning their could be mounted combat, the discovery of certain metals, guns etc.
You: As said before you are the "chosen" of a creator, the choices are pretty much generic RPG stuff with some extras such as allegiance, personality, skills, acceptance of technology and such.
Time: I plan for the game to take a fair while, your not meant to strive for the finish your meant to enjoy the way you got there. People usually put things in terms of a burger: Beggining/Middle and End and then they say the first and last are most important, that's not a burger! the meat is the best part and everyone knows it, so you should be able to savour it for a long time.
The "growing" mechanic: The people of the world will start as hunter-gatherers and slowly develop into basic tribes then they may discover farming, then warfare etc. etc. this is essentially the crux of the game and the whole "immortal" thing is that your there for all of it aiding or hindering.
Races: for the time being I think the boring: Humans,Elves,Orcs,Dwarves should suffice, but whose to say new races mighn't spring up? Note: you can support a race that is not your own, all races can beleive in anything so the stereotypes of "hippy" elves or mountain dwarves CAN be broken if you so wish.
I probably missed alot of important points because I just wrote in a "as it came to my head" way but if you see anything missing tell me and I'll answer it as best as I can.
If you have advice/an opinion on either or both of these to things then feel free to contact me, heck flat out point it out because I think I just TL;DR'd myself.
