True, I think beacuse Oblivion had better Audio, (I know I'm getting some flack for that statement.)

Try doing the main quest for a bit, that should give a little focus to your adventuring, and should get you some nice loot.

You could also join the Fighters or Mages guild, they can train your skills and level you up faster, as well as giving you quests for XP and items.

Don't take this guy's advice. Oblivion is a far cry from how incredible Morrowind is.

I wasn't talking about which was better. I was talking about which is easier to get into and play.

I do enjoy Oblivion much more than Morrowind, though. But I can see how some people would prefer Morrowind

I hope you have nothing against restarting, because if you're anything like me and really get into the game, you'll be restarting your character a good 50 times or so. As for mods, you can find many great mods for upgrading the textures and overall graphics of the game. For your first time, those are the only mods you need. I suggest the Better Bodies mod. Now, I'm a reader, so I rather enjoyed the dialogue system of Morrowind, but I know not everyone has my patience, so results may vary.

You know what I did when I first started? After getting some starter equipment from the shop, I picked a random direction on the map, and I just started walking. That's one of the best parts about that game, you can go anywhere, do anything. If Morrowind was a 9 out of 10 on a scale, I'd place Oblivion at 2 out of 10. When you hear people saying Oblivion is easier to get into, it's true, because it's essentially 1/5 of Morrowind's content. Many modders consider Oblivion to be "dumbed-down" compared to Morrowind, made for the more mainstream gamer.

Don't expect anything when you begin playing, keep your mind clear and open, and the game will draw you in. And watch out for Cliff Racers. May God have mercy on your soul if you run into a pack of those in your early levels.

Still, the learning curve is worth it in Morrowind. The gameworld is so much more involved than Oblivion's and gives a far superior RPG experience.

Join a guild, join house telvanni (the other two suck) and recreate your character as a mage or wood elf archer. Any other race or character type will get you murdered by two rats when you try the very first pillow quest for the fighter's guild.

This is morrowind we're talking about, they will hunt him. When you do inevitably get swamped by cliff racers your best bet is to get to a city or hide under a ledge.

The leveling/skill system in both morrowind and oblivion is retarded. to get max stats you have to do do alll this working out and choose skills you not going to use etc.

I hope for ES 5 they DONT use this system but use the fallout 3 system it was so much better. leveling skills by grinding is ok in a mmo but in a singleplayer game just feels really lame.
The point of both Morrowind and Oblivion is not to become some sort of uber-demi-god with maxed skills and able to kill any enemy with a single glance
It is to be able to run around in an open world and do whatever the heck you want to do and completely screw with everything and everyone and (I feel like Molyneux talking about Fable here) to be able to tell your own story
Fallout 3 was a sequel based on a pre-existing franchise which is why it had the SPECIAL stat system, because all of the previous games had it. This is also why ES5 WILL have the same stat/skill system, though maybe with a few tweaks.
Personally I am hopping that ES5 will blend the best of Oblivion (color in the world, good combat, user-friendliness) with the best of Morrowind (sh!t load of skills, customization, enemy placement that makes sense, customization, organizations that make sense, i.e. "Hey muscle-bound Dwarven plate wearing, claymore-wielding guy, if you want to join the Mage's Guild and get any where, learn some magic", and customization)
Though I think they should do a mix of the enemy systems from the two games, there should be some leveled enemies, to an extent (I agree Bandits in Daedric doesn't make sense), but there should also be areas that have creatures that are waaaaaay out of your league, its the idea that you want to be able to come back to an area and wipe the floor with an enemy that gave you a lot of trouble ten levels ago.
But we ain't going to see ES5 for a loooong time

Morrowind and Oblivion are massively different. Personally, i prefered morrowinds openess, interconnecting guilds, and best of all LEVITATION. At the same time, oblivion was, as previous people have stated, dumbed down (though not bad). It had slightly more restrictive areas, but in personal opinion, i felt the story was better.

But i'm rambling, and ignoring the question. With morrowind, you should roleplay. This is a game that is meant to be enjoyed. Don't rush, and just explore the game.

oh, and yes the rats were a bugger, but if you had the Tribunal expansion on (like i did) then you might wake up to find a dark brother hood guy staring over you ready to stab your face.)

Edit: in case anyone was wondering: all together, i do think morrowind was the stronger of the two

If you use swords, I believe The Sword of White Woe is an ebony longsword, and you can steal it without getting caught, even though a guard is standing right there.
It's on top of a dresser in one of the Balmora guard towers.
Just hide behind the pillar and crouch. The little pickpocket symbol will tell you if you're hidden or not.

Or you could just use Speechcraft and taunt the guard into attacking you and kill him, since he attacks you first, it won't be assault. Or even easier, just get a 100pt for 1sec Frenzy in the Sadrith Mora mages guild.

If you use swords or axes, I wont have as much advice, since Bethesda likes to screw you over if you don't use generic swords.

Pfft that was exactly what it was about. Once you hit level 30 you are a god (and prove it by killing the other gods)but for instant godhood use the permanent soul trap glitch. Increase any skill to whatever you want then jump mountains, outrun the framerate, firebomb ash mountain and summon hundreds of skeletons to swarm your foes. Just don't use it to fly or you will never get back down.

Morrowind isnt as user friendly as oblivion.

Advice: Dont take on too many quests at once. The journal isnt as organized as oblivions and you will be lost!!!
