Since my current laptop is slowly but surely turning into a slow steaming pile of crap I figured that once I get it replaced I invest in a computer that can actually run the many PC games that I wanted to play but missed out on due to my computer's limitations. Anyway is there any suggestions a newbie can get on what to buy? I've heard good things about one of the gateway computers though that recommendation came about a year ago. Anyway I am open to any and all suggestions.

First things first, let's get the main question out of the way; Do you know how to build a PC From scratch?

I'm going to assume you can't build a PC, ask what your budget is and watch this thread because I was thinking the same thing.

I've never done it but I have tampered with the inside of my old desktop before. Although it was mostly just to add RAM/swap out the power supply.

Not quite the same thing. But are you willing to possibly tinker a lot with the insides of a computer until you find that it works?

Are you familiar with BIOS settings and installing drivers (This one is easy).

And also, very important, what's your budget?

If you've done that, you can do the rest with no problems. Just read the manuals so you know what goes where......and take your time.

I only built my first recently and have just finished my latest build about an hour ago (i7 2600k.....w00t!!)

What's your budget? This will open a real can 'o' worms!!

If you live in the uk. Pcspeaclist is an amazeing custom pc builder. http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/

Such a company even goes through 72 quality testing. Trying to break the computer in a number of ways and if it breaks. They rebuild and new one then test.

If you arnt UK. Maby look for a similer builder. I would go building my own pc. Except i have no confidence in not screwing up a vital componant. I have no build area. Cats are rife and all in all if its not my fault its going to be enviromental.

The heat sink and application of the gel to the cpu scares me to hell at the thaught of screwing up such a stage.

Budget is the biggest thing.

Ill warn you UK or America. When your buying a off the shelf PC thats mostly for things you dont need as much. Such as it may be 500. Except your spending 200 on a hard drive you dont need as big. OR a super speacle Blueray player. While not getting a good CPU or Graphics card. Paying hundreds for extras on software and not hardware.

You will be lead down bad alleys.

I am. And as for budget, well...yeah I can't exactly answer that right now. I'm job hunting and I've sent in applications I'm just waiting for responses.I won't really know 'till then.

That's a pretty insulting assumption. Building a PC isn't difficult as long as you have some secondary machine to do the occasional google search. If anything, one would want to avoid the time expenditure and/or hassle.

You can probably build yourself a really nice computer for around 800 bucks, which should be able to run most games, but if you can go even higher (like the 1,500 rig above) you'll be clear for years, so it's your choice.

If you aren't willing to build, check out the escapists' partners over at origin pc, they can match you up with whatever you want and they know what they're doing.

I meant no offence by it, simply that he has no experience in building a PC and wouldn't know where to start. It's the simplest assumption given the information provided (he mentioned a company that sells finished models so I assume that's what he's looking for).

I am sorry if it came across sounding mean.

Read a lot of manuals, watch a lot of tutorials on YouTube, get the courage to do it (I sure did the first time) and do it!.

Also, depends on your budget, you can build a decent gaming rig without spending too much.

you really need to learn how to build a PC. It is super easy once you get some practice, so just watch videos on youtube or get a PC gamer magazine that has a special about building a good rig.
