World Exclusive! Dovahkiin speaks out!

In a recent interview, Skyrim saviour the Dovahkiin himself, revealed his reasons for undertaking the many perilous quests that lead to his eventual success. Many had believed the stout warrior was guided by destiny. Loyalty to his country and the late Emperor were also common theories. Some few even believed he had done it for fame or gold. But the Black Horse Courier has learned the truth from the noble warrior himself: "I had to do something" he said, "to get out of the house."

Well everyone has a hobby, right?
Some people read books, some people go out for long wals, and some people collect things. In this case dragon souls.

Well, it's a nice detail I guess, but the thought of forming an attachment to one of those Bethesda NPCs horrfies me. I mean jeezuz, how often do I have to ask about rumors and the city I happen to be in before they marry me?
This made me laugh :)
I don't see anything wong with it.
Also am I the only one who saw "Gettin Married to Skyrim" ?

I think it will totally depend on how it's done.

Marrying random NPCs? That would actually make the game worse as it means they spend development time on a totally useless feature.

A system with a select number of companions with defined personalities and storylines where a few have marriage options based on the player actions? Hell yeah, we could use a few more games were depth in romance does not refer to the female's cleavage.

I disagree.

"Honey, could you go and slay a dragon and bring home some dragon flesh so we can cook it?
Thanks!"

No. Just no.

I'll probably do it just to see how it's implemented... then kill her and make it look like an accident so I get all her money and I can move to Valenwood

The thing I read didn't specifically say marriage. I saw something about it in a Q&A, I'll look for it.

Edit:
Oh, ok, it did specify marriage.
Will we be able to have relationships with the NPCs, romantic or otherwise?

Bruce: Absolutely! You make friends with people by doing things for them. Friends in the game will treat you differently. Some of them will even agree to go with you into dungeons and on adventures. You can even get married. If you own a house, your spouse will move in with you.
I've heard plenty of people whining about the concept, something about Fable I think (which I haven't played). I don't think it's a big deal though, just don't do it if you don't like it. It's just an extra element of realism for the hardcore roleplayers.
Or it could be a way to add more life to your house. I know my house was just a loot store and not some home base or anything.
I'd equate it to the horse armour. Not exactly practical, but there if you want it.

I happen to like fable, but what would be really nice is if we had companions who had names, personalities and stories bioware style. It's not a big deal to drag random civilian x or guard y off the street into a dungeon where they'll be murdered by mudcrabs and level one skeletons, but bringing my friends, the epic devil may care firemage with an alcohol problem brought on by his accidental burning down of his orphanage when his powers manifested, or the stoic but kind hearted marksman warrior woman who's father was killed hunting a specific legendary dragon would be.

i was thinking of marrying someone in game with a silly character so they can be a wife/husband beater, for the laaawlsiness of it.

DISCLAIMER: i do not condone household violence in any way, and people that abuse their partners sicken me. however, in a game no harm is done to anyone except an npc, so if there's potential comic value in it, i may practice firing magic lightning and/or fireballs towards my imaginary spouses general vicinity.

other than that, the whole relationship/marriage thing is a bit meh, but i haven't seen it( and wont until sometime on or after 11/11/11) giving me no way to personally judge it properly.

Well, it all depends on how they go about with it, and how your husband/ wife looks compared to the other NPCs, I am wary considering how Fable usually does marriages, but if they do it right, it could be a blast to do a marriage.

If it does something, yeah sure, but if it´s just a useless NPC to have in your house then I rather not have it(looking at you fable!).

*Gets home from a long day of adventuring*
-You´re late!
-Quiet! You did not just slay a freaking ice dragon!
-Tylor next door slays dragon all the time and is home on time to his wife.
-Then you should marry him instead! *beats her senseless[footnote]Sorry if tacky, and just to clarify I do no support violence in the home[/footnote]*

Worst case scenario? The characterization is a joke, but your spouse hangs around your house, makes it feel more homey, and adds dramatically to the RP elements of the game.

I'm happy with the above, and in all likelihood, Bethesda will put more work into it than that, so whatever happens, we win. :D
Besides which, I'm tempted to believe tthat there will be somewhat more characterization of NPCs this time around, which, coupled with significantly more voice acting, can only be to the good.

Do you think Marriage might enable kids? I wonder what this would bring to the table, though i think marriage is about as far as Bethesda will take it. Todd Howard also said in the same interview that the player can continue to live beyond the last main quest so there must be something to develop the character further after this...

And if it does allow you to have kids, i wonder if you can be an Argonian, and marry a Khajhit...

Alternatively we could accidentally kite a dragon into the town.

It's not something I'm excited for, but I guess we can only wait and see what it will be like. I don't think it will be done well though. I just have this feeling...

I think that is a waste. The devs could be spending time doing something that more then 5% of players will use.

I dont approve of the whole marriage thing in ANY game. Just seems not serious at all. I dont play a game to "marry" someone... I use real life for this.

I seriously doubt the marriage mechanic will work like it does in Fable. This is Bethesda we're talking about. I'm willing to bet the Radiant Story system and series of quests unique to like particular types of NPCs will act as courting, and finishing the line will end with you getting married. That really doesn't sound like that stupid of an idea. That being said, I probably won't do it until I've beaten the game and done all the faction quests...like 6 times.
