Stuff to try, make sure you have .net framework 4, and if it consistently does it then delete the client, re-download and see if that helps.

Other potential things: Shadowrun might only run on Vista or higher, I'm not sure.
Teh interwebs is saying something about turning auto updates on if you're running XP.
And other parts of the internet are saying make sure you have definitely changed your firewall settings to allow GFWL client.
