okay, so my friend gets Xbox live. they give him a copy of PGR4 (Project Gotham Racing 4)with it and my friend doesn't like racing games, so he gives it to me. It's a good game, and compared to the demos I've placed for NFS Shift, there aren't a ton of differences. I get on Multiplayer, and not a soul. No one in the world is playing PGR4. I realize its an older game, it came out like a year ago, but does that mean no one out there will play it? I understand people want the latest and greatest, but does that mean classics are dead? do people still play mario or do they just remember playing the original? I guess the question is, have you found a game like this? and if so, I'll see what I can do about keeping your classic alive.

I know people that play it, they are just few and far between, a lot of the older games are like that though.

I wouldn't call Prey a classic, but seriously, you will actually get the shock of your life when real people log onto your server.

I'd say that the racing crowd would be playing Forza right now. Might have just picked the wrong day.

Yeah I had this when I was trying to play Overlord a year ago, I was waiting for about 2 hours and not a single person came on
Same story with Burnout: Revenge. About a year ago I went on the online and again, I didn't find a single person
I was very disappointed
People just want to play the newest, shiniest thing really.

I think people do still play the older games but with multiplayer it's different. Most people want to get straight into the action, not wait for 5 people to coincidentally go online for a game that's several years old

I play classic games all the time, but yeah, I think it's different for online play

Still plenty of people on the Battlefront games... but that's likely because they haven't released a newer version.

Mostly LAN games, I'm guessing. Because you have to pay for xbox live. I know it's fairly cheap, but also LAN games you get to play with everybody around you. Also If a server goes down, it doesn't matter.

Sadly enough, This sometimes happens to me when I try to play Lost Planet: Colonies. That game is so much fun! I have a feeling the original is still probably thriving, and its just that no one wanted to upgrade (just a theory).

I don't think it is a matter of "classic games" in this case. People get new games so they put the older titles aside. Then after a few months they do exactly what you did. Try and take it online and find a ghost town. And honestly who wants to sit in an empty lobby for hours waiting?

Fear was like that, the MP was actually good but there was only 100-200 ppl online which is hard to make a full game like that. One reason I love COD4 is it list the number of people in each playlist, and the numbers are usually pretty high.

I had some surprises like that with two games from XBL. Doom and Street Fight 2 (insert words such as ultra and alpha and ultimate here). The annoying thing is, both had achievments that require you to play and win matches online. Not a soul in site. I literally mean there are no other people playing these games online. Not like only 2 or 3 people, I mean fucking none.

That was what it was like the first time I logged on to Final Fantasy XI, just to check it out. oO Then again, it was no loss for me, because I was stringently opposed to FFXI as it screamed of a cynical money-grabbing exercise to me (as if the series didn't earn enough cash already =P).

Anyway, that's one of the reasons why I'm a little iffy about getting multiplayer games. I'm in my last year of school, doing a lot of study, so there have been a lot of times where video games were the last thing on my mind, (in fact, I'm doing my finals this month). Needless to say, I haven't had the opportunity to get a lot of recent games, even ones I know I'll like. So, when I do get games, I have to wonder whether to buy a great multiplayer game that's kind of dated, and risk feeling like I've missed the boat, or just get the sequels and skimp out on the year-old awesomeness.
