Reading the thread about time travel, I read this post.

Speaking of ghosts, I think they may figure in to the mystery of time travel. There are instances where we see apparitions of long dead individuals and yet, they seem completely oblivious that they are being noticed in our time. Maybe a distortion in space-time reveals them to us. It could be that a similar distortion does the same thing to us. Look around: it could be that someone from the future can see you. As to weather we can create a way to control this phenomena remains to be seen.
It got me thinking a lot. What are your thoughts on ghosts? It would have never even occurred to me to think of them in this way. It's pretty cool to think about. Perhaps what we are seeing isn't someone dead after all? If you believe in them at all I suppose.

I'm skeptical about 'em but hell I can't 100% doubt their existence. When it comes to the ghost shows though, I think they're crap.

I swear I've seen them, and I'm not quite that crazy to hallucinate things. Also, is it wierd that ounce I saw an old abandoned house with a large, bald man in the window, only to learn that there was a large, bald man who lived there in the 30s until he died of a heart attack?

Nope, I believe in low frequency noise though, can't be bothered to find a source but this dude found that low frequency noises of a certain frequency (or wavelength, my physics lessons are now very faded memories) can induce feelings of apprehension and suchlike as well as cause distortions at the periphery of your vision and other similar effects. Doesn't explain every instance of ghostly happenings ever but it explains some things.

I dont believe in them. Actually, you can slim it down to two reasons why people dont beleive in ghosts:

1) you have to acknowledge there's an afterlife afterward (it just doesnt make sense if you dont). Or something after life. So people who believe that "when you die, thats it" cant say they believe in ghosts or it goes against what they beleive.

2) Most people who say ghosts talk abou thtem as either boogie men from satan, lost souls tied down to earth, or just angels (I remember in 11th grade in high school, this girl did a report on how if you beleive if god you have to beleive in ghosts, and said arent angels just ghosts? She then showed us a video of something angelic walking into a hospital room, and i kinda wish i had the vid she used cause its just cool). So they call them by differnet names because, again, to call something a ghost it means you have to have a spirit tied down to earthly objects and people dont like to think about their family members like that and prefer to think of them as "angels" that watch out for them.

So as to why I dont? I just dont see the purpose. Speaking as a guy that beleive in heaven, the idea of a person sitting on earth or being rejected just doesnt make sense. you have to go somewhere, otherwise you wouldnt be dead. So there's just no reason for them.

... that, and I've never seen one.

I've experienced low frequency noise and yeah, it's eerie as hell. Just a feeling of foreboding that you can't rationalize away. I have experienced that feeling in the weirdest places though like my grandmother's basement.

More on ghosts...well, I was quoted in post 1. The only thing I can't place or, logic into the equation is the poltergeist phenomena. You're sitting in your kitchen, next thing you know a there's a knife in the wall and all your plates are shattered on the floor with no hint of an earthquake or, angry spouse in sight. It could be that poltergeists are a completely different phenomena to ghosts but they are always lumped together.

I suppose if a distortion in time can bring the image of someone from the past/present to the future it could also bring about other things. Like have you ever stubbed your toe and thought, 'what the hell did I just hit!?' It could be that a time distortion just appeared and, swallowed itself with just enough time for you to screw up somebody's curio cabinet. I mean if they can see you, if we can see them and, if we can hear them walking around then, why can't they also bump into our stuff? It's not the kind of thing you talk about afterwards either because of how embarrassed you are with yourself for breaking your toe or, elbow on uncommonly solid air.

I haven't seen any evidence of ghosts. Nor poltergeists. It is one of those things that you only hear 'from a friend of a friend' or that no one can reproduce.

I may have seen a ghost before, if that is what it was...

Although, I believe I witnessed a time distortion... I saw a dog jump into, what I can only describe as a rip in space/time...

The problem with the idea that ghosts are imprinted in the space-time continuum is that the space time continuum is not bound to the Earth. The Earth rotates around the sun and sun flies through space at billions of miles per hour. Any imprint on space and time would be hundreds of thousands of miles away in deep space. An imprint of me typing this message a few seconds in the past would be around the orbit of Pluto by the time I hit the reply button.

I don't know. I've had weird things happen to me before but... nothing that proves the existence.

I've seen entities before but... that could have easily been my own mind playing tricks on me or just a simple illusion at the time.

I don't know for sure but there are some things that just can't be explained and I think they never will be.

Yeah, ghost shows are garbage. I've seen things I can't explain. Ghosts or not, I can't say. But there's weird stuff out there so my skepticism is tempered by curiosity.
