It is the early 1990's. A small time TV Crew has decided to investigate an infamous haunted house, with a very dark past. Survival is far from guaranteed, as a violent and hateful spirit makes it's presence known.
No, this isn't Sweet Home
This is GHOSTWATCH
Shown on BBC 1 as a Halloween special, Ghostwatch was a horror story shot as a legit investigative report into a house haunted by a mysterious presence. They used legit presenters like Alan Parkinson and Sarah Greene to add to the authenticity. It was light years ahead of it's time, predating both REC and The Blair Witch project in the genre of Cinema Verite Horror.
Go watch it on youtube if you want a real scare.
Anyway, after playing through Sweet Home
(Go look it up and play it as soon as you can: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweet_Home_%28video_game%29)
I have came up with the Blueprint for what could be a kick ass Ghostwatch video game!
Platform: Wii (you'll see why)
Genre: Survival Horror RPG
Plot: Takes place during Ghostwatch, but with big changes in the script.
The house is no longer just a pleasant home, but a sprawling mansion with secret passages throughout the Town. We begin with Parkinson and the paranormal expert in the studio doing the introduction. We cut into the house, this time with: Sarah Greene, Craig Charles, A Camera man (To be named later), a boom mic and sound engineer (to be named later) and the eldest Early child inside the house. As the show begins, things quickly go awry with Pipes manifesting himself, causing a chain events that strands the previously mentioned five in the house with only one way out:
Solve the mystery, find the exit, and perform a ritual to send the ghost back where it belongs.
Like with Sweet Home each character gets a special attribute and item.
Sarah can reduce everyone's fear level and can help solve clues. She gets the radio link to the studio.
Craig is athletic and can take care of obstacles and move heavier objects. He also has a punt kick that he can use it battle.
Camera man has good accuracy and can document everything. This play a role in both fighting spirits and solving the mystery as you can take pictures of things, and get calls back at the studio with advice and hints. He also has access to lighting equipment, which can illuminate dark rooms without the use of candles.
Sound man has a boom mic that acts a ghost detector like radios in Silent Hill. You can unscramble the static for hints and scary clues, like with the camera man.
The girl has a skeleton key that can open most of the doors in the house. She also is more adept the supernatural.
At any point, you can have Sarah get in touch with the studio for various reasons.
Parky gives you developments regarding what's going on outside the house and how their coming along figuring out the clues you send.
Dr. Pascoe gives you info on the supernatural and advice on how to properly combat the ghosts.
And Mike saves your game and puts callers in to give you advice. Callers aren't always right BTW.
During the game you guide your party through the premises, fighting spirits, and collecting items. You need to collect evidence to figure out the mystery, while fighting to survive.
Ghosts mainly attack in rooms with higher levels of paranormal activity. Especially in the dark. Each character's ability serves a purpose in figuring out the mystery.
Sometimes, however, you have to split up. Choose your parties wisely.
Items are only found in non paranormally active rooms. Be careful, and listen to your sound guy. Because it may not be as safe as it seems. All the equipment must be charged, which can only be done in safe rooms. It's a game where your rewarded for being on your guard.
Like in Eternal Darkness, you have a sanity meter, with each character having a different tolerance. For example, it isn't very hard to scare the little girl, but Craig has much a stronger constitution. Sanity is restored when Sarah talks to a character (provided she isn't having problems) or when you make contact with the studio.
Also, like Eternal Darkness, sanity effects the real world video game.
The screen blinking on and off, scary noises, vibrating controllers. You know...
All the different tools are controlled with the Wii remote and nunchuck. The Camera and the Boom mic especially.
Altogether this looks to be a very scary and interesting game.
What do you guys think?
Any suggestions?
