Howdy howdy escapists!
So in recent years I've gotten really into comics that I liked in my kid days, you know, Batman and such. Actually, pretty much just Batman. Anyway, I also finally got a read on the Scott Pilgrim series and absolutely dug it. A friend at work recommended Seconds to me, and I loved that too. Anyway, I was looking for some recommendations of what to read in the graphic novel department. I absolutely love Brian O'Malley's style and really want to find more like it.

Brian o'Malley has a pretty unique style, so I can't recommend anything like him because I don't know anything like him.

However: Solanin is a very good one-volume series about a lazy girl and her boyfriend who's in a fledgling band. It's funny and poetic, often at the same time.

And yes, it's Japanese, but it's not like most manga, so don't diss it for that reason.

In a very different vein than what you've read recently, I can't recommend Phil Foglio's Stanley & His Monster and Angel & the Ape mini-series enough. Stop by your local comic store and see if they have them as back issues. (I'm finding that back issues rarely cost much more than current off the shelf titles...)

We have no sort of comic store here. I either read digital or order copies. I'm not too against manga, my one issue overall with reading it is the different layout.
But I'll check these out, thanks guys!

I second this. I haven't read this particular one, but Phil Foglio is great.

I don't read as many comics as I did when I was a kid (something I am planing to change). I am not familiar with Brian O'Malley's work so I can't help you with finding works that are similar.

I recently made a 1 year long excursion into american comics and came out liking All Star Western, XO Manowar and Archer & Armstrong (especialy the last one).

I also recently read the first two albums of orbital which I can recomend to anyone who likes SciFi.

It's not really related to the comics you listed, but my favorite comic is 'Girls' by the luna brothers. Though it's very nsfw.

If you're old enough to get it without getting eyeballed by the store's proprietor (it has some moderately explicit sex and violence), Brian K. Vaughan's Saga series is one of the best things I've read in the last couple of years. Not just in comics- period. It's funny, it's touching, the characters are multi-faceted and believable in a setting that's about as wild a mixture of fantasy and science-fiction as one could imagine.
