My gender means very little too me. Well, no one's gender means anything to me, really. I've never cared or thought about the sexes much. Male, female, both, neither, black, white, blue - I don't take notice.

Yet you seem to have studies on difference in hand-eye coordination between males and females handy. For someone who doesn't care, that seems odd.

I have been discussing playing online FPS games with a friend recently, I rock at LFD but I'm pretty ashamed to admit the that thought of starting to play TF2 or COD against men who have been playing for ages scares the bejesus out of me. I'm probably gonna suck and when they hear the female voice on comms they are probably gonna rip me apart arent't they? Not to mention my anxiety will probably make me play even more like a retard.

I know, I'm such a coward.

Girls may have the same abilities and potential, but they are not being treated equally, and they are in quite a peculiar predicament, being part of a group that is composed practically only of males but actually isn't.
Thinking that you will manage to end the discussion around women on the gaming scene with your observation that girls can be as good at games as boys (no shit) is truly naive, and missing the point of the discussion completely.

What I am more disappointed in is the lack of girls who enjoy PC gaming or that have a PSN account. I don't care for neither mind you, but a large number of girls seems to go for the X360, and last I recall, unless girls love Halo and Marcu Fenix, there is something else going on...

Anyway, personally, I find it bothersome on how many people like to nitpick on the last 3 Star Wars and lack in giving the explanation of why. Personally, the comment of Darth Vader being a sissy doesn't fly. He was young and got corrupted, found out that his family died because of him through proxy but doesn't want to accept it. In the last 3, he essentially turns on his own father figure, just as much his own son turned on his father, to essentially prove and make up for not being a man. He decided in the last moments to do the only thing he could as a person to save his child, and make it up to him.

All this wouldn't have made sense if the first 3 had Mr. Blondie being a hard arse...also, I love cake.

So I've been somewhat offended by the amount of 'girl gamer' threads appearing over recent days/weeks. It's a minority, but an aggressively stupid discussion. Here's the bottom line:

Gamers have their skills by a combination of reflexes, natural talent, strategy and above all, practice. Neither of these traits are stronger or weaker between the genders.

It's just sexist to so much as imply that girls or guys are better or worse at games. I've met people of both genders who range from ultra-pro to plain shite, and when I can't see faces or hear voices, I can't tell the difference. In fact I dated a girl a while back and she was just as nerdy and up-all-night-gaming as any gaming nerd. It's probably why we got along so well, but that's the same as any other couple who share interests.

But really, the problem lies with the people who inflate the stereotypes - the guys who go nuts for 'girl gamers', and the girls who exploit it for game items, levelling or just plain attention.

tl;dr - girls are equal in games as guys. We don't need to talk about it anymore.

You don't see any girls at the GSL(global starcraft 2 legue) Is it sexist to say that they can't play perhaps... or perhaps they just don't care, either way the result is the same... However you see a lot of female games at sims3. Now I don't want to sound sexist but is it any wonder we put girls into this stereotype of being awful at games??

Glad to here it, my advice is simply make observsations on a subject then ply a disgusting amount of cynical wit on it and wait for the sarcasm to work itself into the mix.

If you still fail to come up with something just add "mother fucker" to the end of it and you should at least get a smile.

Haha, Actually I'm South African, I just grew up in Britian.
Still who knows what influenced what =P

Its all in the context my friend and how others perceive it.
If you say "God she's fat" and it sounds spiteful yes thats how it will be seen.
If you say "Ho man she is yet to find the opposite to Yes when it comes to cake," it is still harsh but its also funny ^_^
