Vagina's are pretty awesome. Point being that girl stuff isn't necessarily bad, just girly.

/thread.
I imagine the pain of a baby coming out of your vagina sucks pretty bad though...despite how miraculous it might feel when you see the thing. Though I gotta agree with Max, most stuff does suck.

Some yaoi is pretty good, since it can get pretty silly (in addition to a very few that are actually pretty good stories). 'Course, when I think that, I immediately have to wonder if women view all the yuri I read and imagine in the same way.
You would wonder that, wouldn't you? I would too. if.. I had yuri.
It's pretty easy to find on the internet.

...and pretty easy to imagine when you're a Konoka/Setsuna and Nodoka/Yue shipper, but that's another story. ^^;

Eazy Bake Oven
Okay, so the one useful thing ever created for children, you want to go away? Seriously?
"Mom/Dad I'm hungry!"
"See that plastic box over there? it's called an Eazy Bake Oven. It's easy, and it bakes you things. Go follow the instructions and never talk to me again about food."\

Half the problem with children, solved!!!

does that mean that good mass media will be primarily marketed to a more masculine audience? If not, what are some counter-examples?
No, it doesn't.

To be fair, most stuff sucks.
Regardless of who it's aimed at.
NO. Transformers?! Mighty Max?! Creepy Crawlers?! LEGO!? That shit did NOT suck!

What about Disney's other projects? I can't think of many right now but I'd think you'd be hard pressed to say that Kim Possible is targeted to young women and a terrible show.

Oh and what about MTV's Daria (one of thier better shows in personal opion over the years.) it was about a girl who was a social outcast in her school who didn't let it bother her while having a sister who was typicly one of the popular girls dealing with a varity of issues from growing up.
Edited.

I believe some of the stuff marketed towards adolecent girls gives them the mentality that it's okay to be a snooty ***** because they are a princess or that boys like girls with an attitude.

Where is the "Nurturing Mother" Barbie? Or the "Career Woman" Barbie? Maybe if it wasn't all princesses and dolls called "Bratz" (I hate people who are brats), then there would be more well adjusted girls and not the psycho chicks I meet on a daily basis.

Everything else is water under the bridge for me. If a company wants to market their product to left handed lepors with daddy issues, then that is their business. If I was going to nitpick one aspect of marketing, then I'd need to do it for everything, and I don't want to do that because I enjoyed playing with my GI Joes as a kid.
Where is the blue collar action figure? or the corporate lawyer action figure with amazing subpoena issuing action?

Girl toys and shows are fantasy, just like boy toys and shows.

girls who can't seperate reality from fantasy by the time they grow up will fail at life, just like boys who can't do the same.
Well I'm not sure about that, I agree that a girl that does not grow out of thinking she is a princess or whatever is likely to not do so great at life. But boys, the kind of things advertised towards them is quite different, things like Action Man for example. Okay so boys arn't going to go around kiling Dr X but they may well join the army, which isn't exactly failing at life.

Hey, lingerie is marketed towards females.

No man can say that this item sucks.
What you wear suspenders and a bra?
That sucks also.

The quality of something does not depend on its target audience as much as it relies upon its overall dedication and soul. Many of the things you mentioned are generic money-grubbing products dressed up in pink to appeal to girls. However, all this does is overload the market with crap (often that crap is well-received, but people are idiots, so...) and offend those girls who are smart enough to realize that they are being pandered to. Still, if it has heart, vision, and a dedication to quality, rather than a get-rich-quick mentality, or an attitude of talking down to the audience, then it can be good. For instance, Powerpuff Girls was great. Remember when the mayor killed Navi? That was great.

You did but I'm saying that Kim Possible is a good/great show to be a role model for standards for young girlsto still be feminate while being heroic popular intelligent and athletic.

Edit: Oh I mistyped my original post.

And for that matter, Twilight? That caters exclusively to adolescent females.
So does the JB, and that's for any female
So does The rest of Disney Channel
Eazy Bake Oven
Barbie
Bratz
MTV
TEENick and Noggin
Oprah
Food Network

All of this shit (minus Eazy Bake oven but it's arguable) is mainly market toward females. And don't you go and say "Oh but I'm a guy and I played with that stuff" You don't count, it's who it was Marketed to, not who actually bought it.

I don't know, but is all shit marketed towards girls complete shit? And if that is the case, does that mean that good mass media will be primarily marketed to a more masculine audience? If not, what are some counter-examples?
Easy Bake Ovens are awesome, yo. I loved mine as a kid. But Barbie sucks.

As for Food Network, I dunno because I've never watched it, but some of my friends love it. And my mom likes Oprah. And since when is MTV marketed women?

I could ask the same thing and ask why some things aimed for guys suck--like, monster truck rallies, I'm-compensating muscle cars, and Maxim.

You're not missing much. All yuri boils down to are a couple of girls that fear commitment or are too naive to see the blindingly obvious actions of their peers.

I love it when girls suck.
Wait, what?
Oh, that kind of stuff. Well, I just ignore it and move on, it's better for both my blood pressure and sanity.

I don't consider half the things on your list to be aimed exclusively toward adolescent females. I also think there are a ton of stupid products and programs marketed toward adolescent males, so your point doesn't really make sense to me. Yeah, there are shitty products on the market for girls... but there are for boys as well; crappy products and images aren't limited to just one gender. And while young girls are being pointed toward silly princesses swathed in pink as role-models, boys are being guided toward massive he-men who are brandishing cars and guns.

But for men, the military is a very real possibility, and once we get used to the fact that death is a part of that possibility, we tend to take it a little more seriously. Aside from that though, I'd say that most men don't grow out of their childish antics like watching cartoons for instance, or letting off a fart that can be heard from 3 blocks away. To us guys, escaping reality is what we do best. Why? Because this world seems to be a cesspool of degenerates who feel the need to make my life a living hell. No reason to stay clocked in mentally if that is the case.

Actually to be honest...being a girl I haven't kept ANY 'girly girl' stuff I was given to me by friends or family, but stuff like beanie babies, comic books, old N64 games, and mountains of pencils... you know stuff anyone can enjoy. I've kept.

I'm an odd case though as much as it was shoved at me, it never kept my interest for long, I was just as interested in the Power Ranger action figurines as I was in some stupid 'latest' Barbie avaliable. And thats not much.

I was however a Disney child, so shut up, Disney princesses rock.... I even had a Belle 'Ball gown dress. And a 'Beast's Mirror' that made this fun sound.
But then I liked cartoons about anything. Weather it was on Nick, crapped out of japan or the latest from Disney Studios. Pretty much why you can guess what line of work I'd like to be in.
