Back when I was a wee lad (say that in your head in a Scottish accent, do it now!) we had the marvelous internet and everything at its disposal, including FPS gaming and a fuckton of aimbots to go with them. We at The Global Army came across scum that would use extraneous software to help with their kill counts, it was easy enough to see that some guy was suddenly stopping mid firefight to open up his console and firing up the latest version of "aiming for dummies".

Now do you people understand why other people want to win so badly as to cheat?, I can't understand it myself, after all, any win would be a hollow victory what with the fact your God versus but mortal men.

While during the glory days of the PC FPS when it was actually fucking hard to win it was easy to spot cheaters, how do you tell on consoles if someone is cheating, if they happen to beat me why yes of course they are cheating... that much is clear!, but other than that since you don't have a console command how can you tell if they have aimbot?

Am I being niave? was this a waste of time and bandwith, YOU DECIDE!.

Seriously, I've searched for KillZone cheats and thank god there are none so far, but I hear that Xbox live and MW2 in particular are affected by an aimbot made by a lovely guy called HelioS.

Because playing online games and having high kill counts on the popular ones are now seen as some sort of status symbol.

Never used an aimbot, only glitched once in halo 2 and it wasnt to get kills it was to screw around on the map. Hacking ive done once or twice on MMOs but never in PVP. If its a free MMO and grindings become a pain in the ass then ill do it if only for the lulz.

EDIT: Its hard to tell if someones using an aimbot on consoles. There is another way of cheating and thats using modified controllers with special trigger buttons so you can shoot incredibly fast but these are easy enough to spot.

Aside from that just look out for guys shooting through walls hiding in the ground and such and you should be able to spot cheaters

This gets me everytime, back when I was a wee lad (scottish accent remember) the kill count didn't stick. What I mean is that every new game was a new game and the score on that round didn't accumulate like it does nowadays so apart from bragging rights with your mates having a hack didn't account for shit, the minute PunkBuster got a hold of your arse your login was fucked until you found a specialised "cracked" server.

And now that Xbox live and PSN are all the rage, having a hack can seriously compromise your chances of being a dirtbag on a leaderboard, like forever.

Normally i'd launch into a tirade about how "your a very bad man" and what your grandmother may think of you but hacking on an MMO is fine, since they are far away from me. Hear no evil see no evil!
:D

If I ever catch you cheating on KillZone 2 though I'll say bad things about you on the internet!, that'll teach you!.

They don't do it to win.

Like griefers [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPoKaoJu0m4], they do it to annoy others and enjoy themselves.

Really? you can get special "shooty shooty brap brap" controllers?, I didn't know that!.

I use a standard DualShock 3 for all my pretend killing needs, I have a tendency to use a custom setup whenever I can to get an edge, but I never glitch the map, I see alot of people using cover in KillZone but I'm cool with that, not my style but hey if its there in game for people to use they should go right ahead.

The controllers aren't official products people mod them, and they're usually banned after using them once, XBL is actually pretty hard to cheat at.

Basically a guy cuts a hole in the controller then solders and extra button onto it. I know when the first MW came out alot of my friends had theirs done. A few got banned but the rest never got caught.

It's a shame really.

No, i'm not just saying that because my K:D ratio in MW2 is bad. It was fine in other FPS games, even Counterstrike, but its been a total non-starter in any of the COD games. Even so, I remember that in CS there was no "overall stat tracker" except for specific servers. Since I tended to jump servers alot, I only really knew how I was doing on a specific day. I had bad days, to be sure, but I also had days where i'd curse myself out if I didn't kill someone with a headshot.

I've never cheated in a multiplayer game and never will. Why? There isnt much point in easy victories, because then you might as well just go play the game on single-player on the easiest difficulty setting.

Alas, I guess some people are just too obsessed with "winning" and looking "special" in some way by what they have achieved, even if their methods are clearly dishonorable and wrong. So it goes.

It breaks down to natural human nature. In most people there is that deep dark need to feel superior. It's the same reason people were smug about buying hybrid cars when they first came out. Cheating let's them feel superior by giving the illusion they are quite good, except when they're actually so bad it's blatant they are cheating.

Just like as much as I try to stiffle that need, I feel superior when I proceed to kick the stuffing out of said cheaters by being a credit to team and not kill farmer. But I mostly only play BC2 and TF2, where there is an actual team to be a credit to.

This is what I dont get, if you cheat your being superior by having a better setup then the other guy, so your not better at all, you just have an advantage!. It makes me feel good that I can tip toe to toe with cheaters but I just dont get why they are doing it.

There was an overall stat tracker in CS, it was on GameSpy and PunkBuster, being on any server that wasn't a dirtbag cheating server relayed the info back of how you done... the stats wasn't in your face but they were there if you went looking for them. CS was horrendous for cheating too, something like 72% of people would cheat and then get banned.

XboxLive changed that by having your score card right in everyones face, and by extension you dick and your friends dicks were in everyones faces.

So the moral of the story, back in the glory days of PC FPS we all had dicks but we kept our dicks in our pants, now we stick our dicks in the faces of everyone we see.

Well, this is the first i've heard of it so it does not really matter now, does it? ;P

I knew cheating was pretty rampant, but there were so many servers to go to, and many of those beat the crap out of suspected cheaters, that you could find a nice place to relax and play for a few hours. Now... if THAT GAME (cough cough) had dedicated servers, maybe it would be better!

Either way, I guess I just don't understand the whole "e-peen" thing people get. I guess they are compensating for other failures.

I fucking hate rockets, there should be a much larger penalty for using those things.

The penalty used to be that using them could cause huge team mate casualties, but since most servers and people have switched off "friendly fire" because the cackhandedness of Rocket users that penalty isn't there anymore.

Funny story, KillZone had a beta, in the beta your tactician class would give a 3 second invurability to anyone spawning on your spawn grenade, a pillock using a Rocket by the name of T_E_X would destroy an entire team using his 3 second shield, thereby Guerilla decreed "no you cannot hold such power", which is why you now die upon spawn.

Thanks T_E_X, thanks for getting me killed by snipers before I'm ready to rock.

Never really understood the need to use aimbots/wallhacks etc, it just leaves me with the mental image of some idiot child sitting there screaming "OMG IM SO AWESOME ROFLBBQ" whilst horribly failing.

MW2 is a veritable horde of hackers on some days yet you can still go for a week or so without seeing a single one, they're normally extremely easy to spot as they shoot you through 5 walls with their RPD (hackers weapon of choice).

Hahaha I hate when people waste the spawn grenades by throwing them straight inside the enemy base because its not like the enemy team are going to surround it or anything and insta kill you on spawn. I didnt know that story lol that guy is a tool.

Anyway additonal OT info:
If youre looking to find cheaters OP there is several ways to do it on PC. If its an MMO ost cheating is done by freezing values in the client and I think this can be shown up if you ask a GM or if you use software.

Also one of the examples of console cheating you forgot was the router freezing some people used in Halo 2. They host a match then before it started theyd freeze their connection from their router so everyone else would be left outside the game waiting for it to count dont giving them time to get the objective etc and then theyd unfreeze and win. I dont think this can be done in other games though
