Last night while playing L4D a player joined my game and, after killing everybody in the room, said that in return for MS points, Pro gamers would help us get achievements for games. We read him the number off the back of a points card, and his gamers help us get achievements. We didn't buy into it but it sounds like a scam. I didn't have a problem with it until he started to leave and he said that he was going to set the map timer to 30 minutes and make it so he could not be kicked. He mentioned this to another guy in the background. It's bad enough he's advertising, but hacking the game so he could continue to advertise and annoy us is what pissed me off. He ruined my game session. You can't report him because they use different profiles. He even said right out we have over 12 systems running and these profiles mean nothing to us.

What I want to know is:
1.Has this happened to anyone else?
2.Do you have any information or websites where I can get more information?
3.What is your opinion on this?
4.Do they have any association with Microsoft?
5.How do you stop this?

His Gamertag was givemedempoints I think and he mentioned a myspace but I can't remember the name of it.

I didn't do it. I would never buy into a scam like that and you can't kick him I tried even with 3 yes votes it still said vote failed.

3.Well dude to be honest it's your own fault, I mean first of all it's pretty obvious from the beggining that it was a scam and second of all why would you pay someone to get the acheivments for you? That's really sad. The point is that you get them yourself so that you have "ACHEIVED" something, what's the point if you didn't get them? Gamer points don't really do anything anyway. Plus why would you effectivly pay fpr a little virtual badge that just sits there and does nothing?
4.Why the hell would the be associated with Microsoft?
5.Get some common sence and some bloody self pride.

1. Scamming happens alot
2. Unless you try a zillion website on scamming there is a few good ones on how to avoid being scammed.
3. I just personally ignore people like that.
4. They would have no association with microsoft i dont think they pull dick moves like that.
5.Only way to stop it is possibly report the gamertag on the microsoft website, or just start another lobby.

Most of the time it comes down to ignoring them, and/or reporting/leaving them

4. Probably not? I mean, you said they were hacking, right?
5. I'm guessing you don't. Call Micro$oft, if you really want to try.

I don't have an Xbox, incidentally.
Ugh, did I just stumble onto the gamespot forums?

sadly if there is an exploit in any system someone is going to exploit it for whatever they can.. it's been like that for thousands of years, and not limited to games ( be them video, board, casino etc)

Nope just report the gamertag even if they do have 12 units odds are they're too stupid to have them connected to different networks If they find one they'll just shut them all down.

1) Someone tried to scam me once, they got met by abuse in game, and promptly kicked.
2) Google it ?
3) If your friends are with you, give them abuse, they usually leave when they know they're hated.
4) Scammers never are associated with anyone.
5) Ignore them, leave the game, or just mute them, block com with them and play the game :)

I prefer to call the bluff. Even if he has 100 profiles, if you nail one, that is still one less. Block messages, avoid gamer, report, and hope for the best.

1) I dont remember any msg like that but i dont really use my mic in-game.
2) Cant really say, Google it i guess.
3) Its comepletely stupid.
4) I sincerely doubt it.
5) Leave the game, im pretty sure using avoid player in the "rep" part of their gamertag will stop them from joining ur game. Im not sure though.

Truth, and then he's out $50. Why would someone want Microsoft Points for a bogus account anyway?

Wow, it got really mature in here.

Anyways, you can call up Microsoft and give them the gamertag. MS can look up the account information and ban all accounts under that name. More than likely they use fake names and free trial accounts to get past this mass ban function. And other people have probably reported him on one account or another. Basically just ignore the guy, leave the game, and move on with your life.

I'm sorry but if you think using a $ instead of s is witty and clever and that you're sticking it to "the man" by doing so, you deserve to be overcharged for anything you buy.

I'm impressed, but can they really do that on a game?
I mean seriously, you can just leave and start another game. Who gives a crap, their artform of E-bullying leaves a lot to be desired.
