Giving Thanks

Thanksgiving or Thanksgiving Day, celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November, has been an annual tradition in the United States since 1863, when during the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national day of thanksgiving to be celebrated on Thursday, November 26.

Today, the 25[sup]th[/sup] November, is Thanksgiving in the United States.

As an Anglo-American I have only celebrated it once a couple of years ago but since The Simpsons is (among other things) a reasonably good guide to American culture I have a fairly rough idea as to what goes on (traffic jams, arguments with extended family, loads of food, the parades, 'football' and the ads between said 'football').

But what I'm wondering is this:
What are you thankful for?

Being a Canadian Heretic, I celebrate Thanksgiving on October 11th.

However, I am thankful for the rights I have, the resources available to me, the food I eat and the people I love. I'm also thankful that I've been given a bright future due to the sacrifices of others who died for my country.

As for memorable Thanksgivings, there was the time there was a huge blizzard in Saskatchewan and my family and I were stranded at my Aunts for a day. I still remember the hours spent playing cards and board games XD

Thankful for... Hmmm...

I believe I'm thankful that I am the way I am and not the way other people that I hate are. There's a number of people that I'm glad I won't have to be. Alot of people aren't happy with who they are, but I'm glad I have my life.

Well we don't have thanksgiving over in ol' Blighty...but I'm still thankful of all the beautiful internet sales this week!

My family and friends, along with all the men and woman in the United States armed forces and other countries' around the world fighting today. Regardless what political reasoning behind the leaders are, I thank all the troops for their courage to defend their countries and their cultures.

And that I got out of school all week from a sudden snow storm. Awesome.
