Glasses or no glasses?

Putting a lens inside your eyeball. Seriously if I see someone do this it makes me feel a bit queazy, i'd much rather someone had an unflattering pair of glasses rather than having to watch them deal with contact lenses

Do I look better with or without glasses? Talk about choosing the shiniest turd. But I would say with, that may be because they simply suit me but it may be because I have worn them for about 16 of my 18 years so I am used to it. I also always try to get the exact same pair as last time, or as similar as possible if they aren't available. With other people, it's sort of a case-by-case, depending their face and the glasses they wear.

Glasses are super fucking inconvenient though. I'm forever cleaning the buggers, and the amount of tests is more than most people's.

What annoys the buttocks off of me is when people where glasses when the have healthy eyes. They are a piece of medical apparatus, sure, buy ones that look good, but why inconvenience yourself because you think it makes you look good (or in some cases, think it makes you look smart) because it makes you look quite foolish. Especially if you're like:
"Oh, I didn't know you needed glasses"
"Actually I don't"
"So...why are you wearing them"
"Oh yeah...I think they look good"
"Okay..."
It'd be like wearing braces when your teeth are perfectly fine. Or maybe I am the only one who thinks this.

I look better without glasses, because glasses make me look incredibly "nerdy" or "intelligent".

I only have them since a few years and growing up nobody just knew that i'm into alot of nerdy hobbies but since i got the glasses in my 20's most people that i met usually think i'm totally nerdy at the second they meet me.
I can't wear contacts even if my life would depend on it, since i'd rather cut of my ears than let anything in the close proximity of my eyes. I can't even use eyedrops without someone applying them to me. Just thinking about putting in contact lenses give me shivers n goose bumps.

Many have already said it but I'll say it again because I'm basically a trained bird; It depends on the person and the style of glasses. There is little hope for me but a smaller, more modern style looked better on me then the bigger and/or fashionable types (like aviators).

I used to have glasses back in the day (you can see them in my profile pic if you're curious for some reason) but I just recently got LASIK eye surgery in August of 2013.

Now I can't really comment about the looks part (though I do believe I look better with glasses for I have a lazy eye and it was covered by the glasses) but removing the glasses from my life has made life far far better. If you are young enough to really enjoy it (pre-50 age), I would strongly recommend that you check it out.

I've had bad eyes since grade school myself. For the longest time, I used glasses. In high school, I tried out contacts.

There IS a bit of an adjustment period, but it's not nearly as bad as you might think it is. After a week or two, you really get used to it. And believe me, I have VERY sensitive eyes.

The trick is to put a drop or two of contact solution in the contact before you put it in your eye. That way, there's no air bubble, and it just sucks right onto your eye with no hassle. You don't even have to put it directly onto your cornea, you can just look up and put it in your eye, and it'll naturally gravitate to the center of your eye. After wearing them for awhile, you'll forget you're even wearing them.

OT: Like I said, I've worn contacts in the past, but after I ripped my last pair, I've been sticking with glasses. Personally, I think I look better with glasses. My eyes are kinda sunken-in, and it always kinda looks like I have black eyes if I don't wear glasses.

I went from glasses, to contacts for a time, then back to glasses. While I found that contacts weren't as uncomfortable as I thought they'd be, there are a number of reason why I went back to glasses.

One of the biggest of those is being able to just take them off and go to sleep. You can never just go home with contacts and plot into bed, you need to got to the washroom, pop them out and clean them. Which is usually just a minor nuisance, but I've been enough situations where I didn't have access to a sink or mirror, such as if I'm on a long car trip and want to nod off for a bit, or if I'm out camping. Plus it's just awful trying to put them back in without a mirror and sink when you're camping, I've lost far too many contacts to the dirt in these situations.

In general, glasses are just better suited for the lazy man

Anyway, I started wearing contacts when I was in middle school. At first, my parents had to put them in because I could never get the stupid things in. But after a few weeks I got the hang of it, and it's been habit ever since. I always had up-to-date glasses as well just in case something went wrong one day and I couldn't wear contacts, but usually I just put them on in the morning as I'm getting ready and take them out just before I hop into bed. Or if I'm going to sit in bed and read or play video games or something, I'll put on my glasses. The reason I don't do the contacts you can leave in all the time is simply because...well, it's what I'm used to. I'd like to say it's because my eyes are so bad it'd make them even more expensive, but my brother's eyes are even worse than mine (I'm -11, but he's about -14 these days). I think he was just so prone to forgetting about them and going to bed with them in, the eye doctor switched him to the overnights so he wouldn't further damage his eyes.

Anyway, once you get used to it, I think the benefits are worth the bother. No stuff getting on the glasses, you can wear real sunglasses, you never have to worry about them breaking, you never have to worry about them flying off on rollercoasters, they never fog up when you go outside in the summer, they don't slip down your nose, they don't leave that stupid mark on your nose...lots of things. Plus having peripheral vision is AMAZING.

Plus, it's a great spectacle when you're around other people. Nothing's funnier than watching people who don't see them often watch you take out or put in a contact lens. Oh, and it makes you really REALLY good at staring contests, since they keep the wind off the surface of your eyes so you can hold them open for a long time.

Ive liked glasses a lot more since I switched to frames that stand out. I used to wear thin framed, black glasses because they were kind of minimalist and didn't draw attention. If you're going to wear glasses you should get a pair that are interesting and rock them with confidence.

I started wearing glasses when I was about 12, and obviously I thought I looked normal enough then and a bit strange with glasses on at first. Now, this image sums up how I see myself;

Some people agree I look weird without glasses, others say they think I look different but not weird. I tried contacts once and it didn't work out; jabbing my finger into my eye multiple times is not a great method to starting the day. I much prefer glasses.

I quite enjoy my glasses. Since I like being able to see, and my eyes are resolutely against any bits of gel-ey plastic, however therapeutic, being in them.

Generally I quite enjoy glasses on others since, after all, I do enjoy other people being able to see as well. There is such a thing as a bad pair of glasses for a face type, though. And I'm still mourning the flamboyant-1950s-librarian pink rhinestone-studded cats-eye glasses I used to have.

Seriously though, with places like zenni optical and the like, now more than ever it's easy to upgrade glasses from necessity to fashion accessory in their own right. It's just something that people often don't take advantage of.

They also do daily disposable ones so you don't have to bother with the tedious cleaning/worrying about losing them part That's what my sister's always used.

I'll admit I share your kneejerk reaction (probably because I associate fake glasses with irritating hipsters), but when I stop and think about it I can't really justify that reaction. I mean, we've got jewellery/other decoration for pretty much every other part of the body, from hair accessories to toe rings, and as this thread demonstrates many people find glasses visually attractive, so why not? Most modern women's belts (for example) have nothing to do with the original purpose of belts and are purely decorative, so would it really be so weird for glasses to go the same way? And hell, at least if glasses became popular kids who actually needed them might not be teased quite so much...

This is rather how I feel on the matter. It can have a practical purpose, but it can also be an accessory, like belts, or hair pins, or boots, or coats, or many other things people wear every day.

I do, but I've used the ones that you are allowed to wear for up to seven days at a time and after sleeping in those for a couple hours my eyes feel massively gummed up for the rest of the day. Plus I had a slightly bad habit of overwearing those and my optometrist said it resulted in some negative effects on my eyes, something like the veins in my eyes growing too deep towards my corneas. He shined a light in my eyes so that I could see them, not 100% sure if it was a scare tactic or not, but it worked enough to get me to wear them more responsibly after that.

So I suppose I haven't had the greatest results with nightly use, it might be something I try again at some point in the future though.

My ideal would be to have both glasses and contacts and be able to switch between the two at my leisure, but as it is my prescription is changing enough on a yearly to bi-yearly basis that I'm spending enough just maintaining the glasses alone without contacts to worry about too.

So at least until my vision stops deteriorating at this rate I'm going to stick with one or the other, and as I've been finding glasses to be easier than contacts that's my top choice for now

OT: I've never worn contacts and I don't think I'll ever bother to try it. I've worn my glasses for too long, that I just look weird without them. Plus my girlfriend and I both agree that my glasses add to my sex appeal, so best not to tamper with perfection.

I may be an odd one out here, but I find glasses to be very unattractive on a woman. Not really sure why. Maybe because it distorts the face somewhat? If that makes any sense? Not sure if it does, but yeah, not a fan. Sun glasses I'm neither here or there with, but reading glasses and other such ones... nah. A woman can be really beautiful, but put a pair of reading glasses on her, and suddenly I'm not really seeing it anymore.

It's an odd peeve for sure, but eh.

I don't need glasses myself, but I have a feeling I would look better with them. They are just quite an inconvenience to have to care for and carry around everywhere (I would imagine).

I prefer wearing contact lenses to wearing glasses. I can sort of see why people would prefer to wear glasses, but I feel that they don't suit me that well. I will wear glasses when I run out of contacts, but on the whole if I can avoid wearing them, I will.
