My friend recently posed this question to me: Has globalization made the world a better place?

With all the improved transport and communications in the recent decade, they have sped up globalization. This has been a big factor in the improvement of economies in various countries, for example, without trade with other countries, Singapore wouldn't be what it is today. In fact, we only survive because of our various forms of interaction with other countries e.g tourism, trade, education, water supply.
Now the problem is, because of globalization, the use of resources has also been sped up and we face the problem of not having certain resources by the end of the next 20 years. Globalization also increases our knowledge of other cultures, but because of this, certain countries are losing their own local unique culture.

TL;DR: Has globalization made the world a better place? Do the benefits outweigh the consequences?

I think a major problem is that globalization was only met halfway. The exchange of resources but not the complete exchange of information and science has lead us to fall into a bit of a pit as our already dwindling fuel reserves might hit empty in a matter of a decade. There is research available that could make a viable alternative to fossil fuels or that could at least spread out the supply until our science is sophisticated enough to do so, but some superpowers refuse to do so because they are heavily invested in fossil fuels as is.
...and there is this bullshit hysteria about national identity being lost in globalization... like i said, i think the problem is that it's only been met half way.

I have nothing to really add here as I have no opinion, I just have to say that this is one of the many times I have seen this misspelling.

"Yay" is incorrect. The proper spelling for the word you are looking for is "yea".

Whenever I see "Yay or nay" threads, I always just want to respond with "HOORAY!"

All change benefits some, but not others.

Globalisation is merely a symptom of the change in the world, you can't really speak of it in isolation.

It's been given a bad press, certianly, because aspects of it have been abused, just like everything else, ever.

Well yes, there's no misspelling. When you see "Yay or nay" threads, the "yay" means "hooray".
