When in fiction, how do you feel when there's a glossary at the back of the novel?

Should a novel ever one (even if it's historical fiction)?

Although I really don't like having to constantly look back and forth to remember who is who, it's better than having nothing. Especially in series like A Song of Ice and Fire and The Horus Heresy.

It's a little annoying to flip back and forth and then finding where you left off, but sometimes I'm really glad it's there, especially if it's something that I have no idea what they're talking about.

I prefer the little footnotes at the bottom of the page.
