Hi, My name is Doclector, and I have a problem.

I browse the internet daily, and I keep looking for things that will horrify me. Disturbing cracked articles, baffling pony thread simulators, the most terrifying of creepypastas and youtube videos, even certain threads on this very forum.

These things will scar images onto my brain that disturb even the most experienced souls of the internet.

And I cannot stop doing this to myself. I do not why I seek out such horrible things, but I do. I simply seek to be shocked.

So, any other addicts here? Can you fathom why you keep doing this to yourself, or are we all like the kid who, even after three trips to hospital, just won't stop eating the glue?

EDIT: It's not a an actual problem to me, I just kinda tried for humour and failed miserably.

Nope...

Once googled something about waffles and a certain color (won't say anything more specific) and that cured that right quick. Now I prefer to avoid such stuff.

Seriously, if you ever come across someone asking you to google a waffle of a certain color. DON'T.

Nah. I was around when blind linking goatse was a thing. After that, I knew the internet hid some horrible things, and I didn't see the point in seeking them out.

What is a thread simulator, though? Because the title seems like it would be rather pointless. There are millions of message boards out there, why would you need to simulate one?

Simply because they gather the most hilariously disgusting posts.

And add amusing clips as reactions.

I'm a simple man...

I am to a degree. I've learned a while back that I am a rather morbid person. And half the time my curiosity if of the morbid variety as much as it isn't.

Sometimes I resist... sometimes I don't.

There are things I can resist better than others. Things that can scare me, I can resist. Things that can gross me out are a bit tougher. Once I even hung out at this site that was dedicated to showing people pop and burst pimples and pustules and other icky infections.

Glutton for punishment? Well, if it suits you... Just make sure to take breaks and come back to reality every now and again. You'll need to after going deep enough.

I see no harm in what the OP's doing, someone please enlighten me.

It was kinda jokey. I can understand not getting it, after all, it wasn't actually very funny.

Similar story;
I was once told to Google the Olympics of a certain kind of discomfort and was horrified by what I saw. I still can't hear that song without retching a little bit in my mouth.

If someone tells you to look a type of Olympic video and it is related to discomfort, do not do it. You will be horrified but unable to look away... I think these are the types of things found in the basement around here...

I'm one of those people who gets scared easily, but always forgets that until I'm watching said scary film.
Though I have a friend who I sometimes exchange certain revolting/terrifying stuff with. I introduced him to marble hornets, he makes me watch insidious. I link him to offended (seriously, do not even think of looking this up), he links me to that video of those people eating each others poo. It's banter, really.

Yes, I also hear cravings you do, but only as long as they are not real. Creepy art or freaky fanfictions, sure. Realistic gore or even stupidity of high level, no thanks. My best guess is that I'm genetically bit sadistic but not quite by personality.

Photography of actual corpses might do the trick, if you're looking for some potential shocks.
People executed by the Mexican Cartel really don't meet good ends. Put on some scary atmospheric music and take a gander at real world atrocities for maximum effect. Watch some videos of the executions, if you have the stomach for it.

Maybe even check out some screenshots of those public catacombs that line their walls with mummified corpses?

I've long since got over the silly things the internet has put out.
The "real" stuff and the true horrible often get my attention.
I try not to think of the sick expletives that get off on it.

As to why, I'm still considering forensics as a career and history interests me.

I'd say "baffling" is putting it so mildly as to make it trivial...those things are a good reminder of why no one should ever go to 4chan. :p

As for why you do it? Simple. It's out there to be found, and you know it is.

I've always had a fascination with the bizarre and macabre, in fiction and reality. I've deliberately delved into dark and crazy art, music and film and into the recesses of the internet. I find entertainment in many things other people find 'squicky'...

That said, while for the most part, I've enjoyed walking on the wild side, I'm sure you understand the need to "up the ante" and see the next most "disturbing thing evar". Eventually, your pursuit will take to you SOMETHING that upsets you - not in the way you enjoy being disturbed - but in the way that clings with you, leaving you upset without the intrigue, for a time, on whatever mundane awfulness you subjected yourself to.

These kinds of moments tend to lend themselves to questions like "why am I viewing this?", "why am I HERE?", "am I a bad person for walking the path that lead to this point?". It all comes down to two words: MORBID CURIOSITY...

So long as that's tempered by living decently and a modicum of humanity, I don't believe it's a bad or shameful trait.

Pretty much everyone these days goes in knowing what to expect, some just don't make it out...

OT: I'm not one to look for that stuff, but I've seen enough to where I'm not too offended by it. Not even the quaintly colored waffles.

It does make me laugh when people think that r/spacedicks and crap like that are the most hardcore places on the Internet. Oh, reddit.

you sound like the average subscriber to r/spacedicks

As long as you don't implement this shit into your small talk, sure, go nuts because apparently you already have :D
