I personally haven't built anything, but this one guy built a car out of thrusters and ragdolls. And it worked.
A fully functional escape pod that flew, drove, and could survive a nuke.

All in their Prototype phase, but all of them work.
Keep in mind this image was the prototype phase, before I repositioned the thrusters and added wheels.
Flies well enough. Turning is still being adjusted.
The most I ever did was put Alyx Vance on a Ghost from Halo. Entertaining, and worked as a cool desktop background for a while, but I've never been able to build anything really functional in there. I usually just have fun blowing shit up

I once built an advanced VTOL aircraft using wiremod. It worked using a series of gyroscopes, an advanced pod controller, a few hydraulics, some stabiliser thrusters, and one big-ass expression chip. The great thing about it was that the propulsion, steering and lift were all provided by two thrusters, so it worked like a real VTOL.
That was a long time ago, though. I gave up about a year ago. Before I quit, though, I was the kind of guy you turn to when you want to learn how to use wiremod or how to code in expression. Ah, good times, good times.

I tried it once at an Internet café, didn't have much time to figure it out. I spawned a Heavy and tied seven overly bouncy cacti (what is the plural form of cactus anyway?) with elastic ropes, then lit the cacti on fire (seriously, how do you say cactus in plural?) and placed the poor guy in mid air. Feel kinda bad for him :-/
