So, Google has written their own programming language, how do you feel about this? Do you think it will last? Is it the new C++, Java or Python?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKnDgT73v8s < If you have an hour to listen to this guy talk.

Edit: Fixed the link.

Why the fuck was I just linked to a John Mayer video?

What does this terrible excuse for a musician have to do with programming or Google?

I doubt that it'll ever be able to overthrow C/C++ (though I wish it would.) Too many people already have those engraved in their heads, no matter how much they might hate it.
I suppose I could conceivably see it putting up a fight against python, as it was intended to have the performance power of C/C++ combined with the speed of python, as well as a much cleaner syntax.
Java is sort of in a class of its own, as it seems to be getting used more for web based stuff than desktop apps.

Oh, and built in Unicode support ftw.

And I think the vid might just have been a mistake, since it does have a website (golang.org)

I presume he meant to link this:
It's from here: http://golang.org/

Edit: I should probably provide some commentary. I language purporting to be as fast as C++ (as it's compiled) yet as easy to use as Python? Too bad Haskell's next on my "to-learn" list, or I'd be learning this straight away.

Don't know exactly. I'm still learning C++ at the moment and, from the looks of it, it's mostly C esk. Not sure what kind of strengths it's going to have an interesting execution. Perhaps we can finally start true multi-tasking?
