All things considered, I'm perfectly okay with having certain titles as console exclusives. Twisted Metal has always been Sony exclusive, as has God of War. I wouldn't want to see Mario and Link hanging around on the 360, much as I wouldn't want Master Chief to be standing next to Kratos or Cole. Exclusives make the purchase decision, for most buyers, and that's perfectly fine. Having an the entire market available for every console is the dream, but isn't a practical sales representation.

Xbox fans just want the whole world don't they?
It's okay for them to have Halo, Fable, Dead Rising, and Gears of War, but as soon as somebody starts making kickass exclusives for Playstation, it's like the whole world's ending.
A generalization, I know, but I think everybody knows at least a few obnoxious 360 fans.

Good for the critics. In this day and age, ANY single platform game developer that [i/]could[/i] be multiplatform, should be criticized. There is and never has been a good reason for exclusive titles.
What about when Sony or Microsoft own the IP and developer? Should they still make the game multi plat anyway?

Nevermind that console exclusives have fueled the industry to it's current state, brought us some of the greatest experiences in gaming history and defined entire corporations.

There always has, and always will be a good reason for console exclusives.

I say good, there's nothing like sticking to your guns for something you enjoy rather than being a money grabbing asshole like a lot of people turn into when they get the chance.

I didn't say there wasn't a good reason for the parent companies to do it, it's how they get people to pay more money for more consoles. I am saying there is no good reason for us, the consumer to have to buy 3 consoles just to play the games we want to play. As for exclusives being the reason gaming has grown so far and it giving us better experiences? No. Just no. [i/]Maybe[/i] it gave a bit more money to one company or the other, but for the most part, there is no reason for most games to be single platform ad the only people who would suffer are the big boys like Microsoft and Sony because people would not be buying multiple consoles so they could play certain games and I don't see either of them going down any time soon. The individual developers would do BETTER because more copies of each game would be sold. And in terms of the best experiences, just because an amazing game was an exclusive, doesn't mean it wouldn't still be great on another platform.

I admit it will never happen, but if IPs and developers could be on multiple platforms whenever they wanted, the industry would be better for it.

The PS3 has been getting this crap for a long time, I'm getting a flashback from it all. I've heard people say "Will InFamous/God of War/LittleBigPlanet/Heavy Rain/Ratchet and Clank/Uncharted/etc... go to Xbox?" while simultaneously going "there's no good PS3 exclusives!" (back then anyway, now not as much), and of course the answer is "NO" because they're all owned by Sony. And then people complain about it, going about, saying "I hate exclusives!" and all that crap.

If there's a game that's exclusive to a platform that you want, don't complain until it comes to your platform. You made your choice in buying your respective platform, the developers made their choice, either you buy the hardware or, to put it bluntly, piss off.

There's nothing wrong with staying exclusive, and I applaud Jaffe for defending his position. I wouldn't want Bungie to port Halo to PS3, not because it's a bad game or anything, but because it's a Microsoft brand anyway. If Bungie decided to port it, or go multiplatform (which they did, but that's beside the point), then more power to them. Same thing with Insomniac, which has recently gone with EA partners I think, more power to them if they can get their games on more platforms if they desire.

Fair enough, I can respect his viewpoint if Sony was willing to lend him a hand before.

This is enough justification for staying with Sony. I mean, didn't Halo 3 alone outsell some of the big-name PS3 games?
Not to mention Halo 3 also helped create one of the scariest fanbases of all times. (Aside from Harry Potter and Twilight fans). Hmmm guess fanbases really are a plague on Humanity....

REALEASE THE PRYO!!! Mwahahahaha Oh how their fan fiction will burn to a crisp.

I like exclusives; it fuels fanboys, which sucks, but it also gives consoles identity. I seriously think consoles are lacking a lot of identity these days.

While I prefer my Xbox 360 I also respect a man with principles. He's established a beneficial working relationship with Sony and he's like to keep it that way. Good on him.
