Big step forward from the Nintendo-SEGA rivalry days. Well, except for Sony.
Sony is always going to be that big bully no one likes XD

Of course, the fanboys will continue to crap themselves because "How dare someone think that the game we love is so good that they use most of its elements!"

I enjoyed Dante's Inferno. It wasn't GOTY material, but it was fun, bloody, and well-done.

I'm glad they're fond of the game.

Also can the Escapist staff stop using that image? It's been used for about 5 different stories over the last week. Isn't there a better (or at least different) one?

Nice, glad to hear it.

Of course if he would be bashing on Dante's Inferno he would basically be saying GoW III is crap as well, seeing as they're so similar.

Sorry to be commenting on this again, but the nudity's never random. I happen to also be reading the book at the moment as part of my cultural development (ahem), and in the book all the damned souls are also naked. Seeing as they're no longer living they've been stripped of their earthly bonds, including their actual bodies, and now their shades just roam around the Inferno. Just to be clear: Shades are naked, because clothes are man-made and therefore earthly.

See, game developers get along fine with one another, so why can't console developers? [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/98398-Sony-Bashes-Microsofts-Check-Writing-Policy-Again]

That is good the God of War Director loved Dante's Inferno. Now all we have to do is convince Visceral never to take a work of classic literature and butcher it again.

Yes, I played the game and I still hate how it isn't true to the book.

Well, I am playing Dante's Inferno, and think it's pretty decent. Out of the 3 big "Brawler" games (this, Bayonetta, and Darksiders) I selected this one for initial purchuse, and am pretty happy with it despite all of the platforming.

Truthfully the reviews seem to have been mostly middle of the road, I haven't seen many people raving about it. But then again I think there is a bit of a "God Of War" bias even among the reviewers.

That said, I find it doubtful that God Of War III will actually "destroy" any of it's three competitors except perhaps in the minds of fanboys, who will insist that happened irregardless of anything else.

In the end I do suspect we'll see more games of this genere, and as the GoW developers point out that's a good thing for those who like them. Truthfully I think we've seen a bunch of solid titles and none of them were train wrecks.

That's really good to hear. I'm glad that some game developers can manage not to be petty about things like this and actually support each other in such a cutthroat market. Truly, this is one of the only instances I've ever heard of game developers not fighting over stupid things, and it's ironic that it happens in one of the most violent genres possible. I hold a new respect for the God of War director.
Same thing.

I want to get Dante's Inferno just to know what I'm up against when I die. That and I've been wanting a game like that.

thats actually great to hear. i dont fucking care if it copies both a few puzzles and almost the entire control scheme of GOW. GOW was inspired from Devil May Cry, so people going about with that should probably shout that instead.

i love the game myself, im in Heresy on my 4th playthrough right now. ive only encountered a few things i didnt like so far, and they are mainly nitpicks:

1. Final boss (guess who it is) is extrodinarily cheap.
2. Cleopatra is the most disgusting woman ever to be in Hell. im serious, this goes under flaws. the QTE deaths against are downright nerve-wracking (why cant Dante resist tits for just 2 fucking seconds)...
3. camera can be slightly dodgy at times.
4. Hoarder-Wasters (the 2 guys melted together wielding a club) are extremely annoying.
5. lots of random nudity, ESPECIALLY during lust.
Nudity is something we don't ACTUALLY see a lot of in games. And well it is LUST. The place where people who are very lustful are tortured. People like rapists and cheaters. So naturally theres going to be nudity. And at least it wasn't trying to be the selling point of the game. And even then seeing some breasts here and maybe a penis or two there isn't really immature. Its there for a reason and its really not gross or overdone unless you're 5 and called them boobies and peepees.

Meh. There's no reason to be angry for borrowing elements from another game series. Dante's Inferno borrows from God of War, which borrowed from Devil May Cry, which borrowed from Soul Reaver, which borrowed from Tomb Raider, which borrowed from Indiana Jones.

Main point here, Dante's Inferno rips off Indiana Jones.

So many thousands of games have been made up to this point that any single game can't be completely original anymore. Less emphasis should be on what the game takes inspiration from and more towards whether or not it's actually a good game.

It's good to see developers not acting like children. I don't see why there is so much hate for Dante's Inferno, i found the concept intriguing and the game was well executed and a whole lotta fun. I love the God of War series too, have both and buying the third one, and, yes, they are very similar but I think Dante's Inferno does enough to differentiate that we can call it a separate game that does bring some new ideas to the genre. Good that Stig Asmussen doesn't succumb to the pointless world of video game rivalry, after all, don't we all stand on the shoulders of giants?

I really enjoyed my time with Dante's Inferno. Sure the end boss was somewhat underwhelming since reducing his heath bar was like chipping away at a boulder with a folk compared to all he other bosses.

I'm willing to bet that the two games have no more in common than most FPS games have in common. The only reason ppl aren't seeing this is becuase games like Dantes Inferno or God Of war (or ninja gainde or DMC or bayonetta or no more heroes etc.)
Haven't been truly defined as a genre the same way FPS have, for instane it doesn't have a specified name, but lots of different ones, half of which not everyone gets anywaya.

I think the heads of the different studios making these games should get toegtehr for some crack and hookers, and then settle on a name for the genre, and state publicly what it was. It would help reduce some of teh stupid whine which this forum seems to be drowning in lately.

I guess i can write a letter to them. If i just write it like i'm supplying the crack and hookers, they'll show up, and then realize tehres none, and they'll just end up ordering it themselves now that they're all there anyways.
