Hmmm...story bits. While mildly intriguing, I think what everyone?s really waiting for is the actual launch trailer. It is there that we should hopefully see the true epicness the series is known for.

Having said that, at least we finally have a release date!

Cool. Can't wait to play it I just hope the brat doesn't follow you around the entire game. Is Kratos' testosterone level in decline in his old age? He's all mellow and fatherly in the trailer I haven't seen him RAGE once.

If you're looking for a good story, then you will be disappointed. The story was great in the first game, but they're pretty cringy from there. I mean, it's gets eye rolling in the third one because Kratos is a very angry man and things must to either smashed or dead.

If you're looking for gameplay, then they're great. Really tight controls and the combat system is super satisfying. The environments are pretty great, and they're typically used in boss fights, which as also pretty damn good as well. Huge in scale.

Puzzles are hit or miss, but they were pretty great in GoW III.

Basically they're great if you want to shut your mind off for a while and just kill all the things. Just don't expect story elements to be anything great.

Oh don't get me started on how awful the story got by 3.

And I had misgivings of it since it began in God of War 2.

But holy shit were they awesome in terms of the level design, bosses, and just the places you visit.

I was laughing my ass off when he said that. And I said this ************ right here. I put money down out of curiosity. I am just going to get the standard edition; there is no way in hell that I am paying $140 for all that shit. That stuff is for the hardcore super fans or people who are just really into collectibles.

That is pretty much what I said back when it was first announced in 2016. It was either that or have a completely new character for the Norse mythology universe. Not to mention that in Norse mythology they are at least seven or eight different gods of war. So Santa Monica had more than enough to choose from or make up their own. I would have been more enthusiastic about the game, had they dropped Kratos entirely.

For the record, before anyone else starts, I know that David Jaffe wanted to do a God of War game in Norse mythology since the beginning, but I really felt they should have just gone with a different character. Hell, at one point they were supposed to bring an Egyptian mythology as well.

P.S - Rumour Has it will control similar to Dark Souls.

Probably because Sony kindly forced Santa Monica to make another one. And honestly, as long as I'm still big, tough guy wielding a giant weapon, traversing an ancient, savage land, and dispatching various monsters, that's more than enough God of War for me.

I know people like to bring this up, but this series was already dead. The last God of War was 2012, and even that one was barely able to ignite much enthusiasm. And what other series were murdered by movie envy?

I think it's more him trying to make sure this kid doesn't end up as fucked up, kill crazy, and bent on destruction as him. The kid sounds a bit bratty though. I guess he can't help it since most kids do, but still...

Also, anyone else notice a bit of graphical downgrade when looking at the world serpent? Looks just a tad jankier.

Well, him being the person that smashed the Greek pantheon to hell and back, he'd know what he's talking about, right?

Who knows what happened to him and the world after the ending of the third game, I for one am interested in finding out what changed him from a rage filled machine to a more careful person.

This game seems to have a completely different approach where in the previous game he was this complete caricature with possibly the worst case of roid rage ever to now all of a sudden being a sedated(atleast in Kratos' terms), responsible parent. It's obvious they try to make the game more serious this time around so don't expect much continuity. Wouldn't be surprised if Kratos is conveniently an amnesiac as some kind of punishment from 'the gods'.

Kind of reminds me of Resident Evil 7 where all of the references to the old games felt hamfisted in. Still, I loved that game and the (mostly) absence of that series' preposterous lore was for the better. Similarly, God of War would be better without that burden. Atleast it looks like a game I'm much more interested in than the previous games.

Considering God of War as it was had pretty much completely been played out, this can serve as an interesting jumping off point for a new game. I mean, even people who have never played any of the GoW games are familiar with how much of a vile **** Kratos was. A new game set a good couple of decades later where he tries to stop history from repeating can benefit from all that rich, pre established awfulness. This is undoubtedly going to come up in the game.

I'm just coming at this from a story perspective though.

I'm still in two minds about God of War nothing I've seen so far has changed it. Every time I see a trailer or piece of art, I can't help but think that had they had a Norse hero then I wouldn't care so much. I love Kratos, more than I have any right really, but the guy comes with the baggage of five previous titles. He didn't need developing. Greece was done, its pantheon was done and Kratos was done.

Gameplay looks interesting; monsters look fun; environments will probably be beautiful and the set pieces as blazing as ever. But (the ever looming 'but') I can't wipe the games one through three and the two prequels from my memory. I just can't imagine this Kratos being the guy that whipped the Steeds of Time into movement or ripped the fingernail off Kronos.

So I guess it could just be the God of War fanboy in me, but I'd rather that Kratos had been absent so that we could have a new God of War protagonist to accompany the new combat system and mythology, with Kratos relegated to a reference.

Well, the announcement trailer saw him fighting that big ogre dude, and the E3 '17 trailer saw another one of those, so I'd wager that is a recurring enemy. Things generally feel big enough from what I've seen. You also need to remember that GoW3 went ridiculously huge. I mean, there's not much more any game can pull in terms of big stuff. And dispite all of that -- all the giant Titans and whatnot -- the game felt surprisingly small, due to you being contained to Mount Olympus.

I'm fine if they scale down the size of the encounters a bit and focus more on the "epicness" of the journey itself. Similar to the first two games, and even Ascension, where you felt like you were traveling the globe.

Yeah, the ogres are in and there are hints at bigger stuff, but as far as epic boss fights I?m hoping they at least retain the grandiose feel of the Greek games, even if not titan-sized. I?m especially looking forward to the whole ?one continuous shot? thing as far as no cutscenes, camera cuts or fade outs. I have a feeling that will make it feel bigger than ever if we?re talking about traversing multiple environment types.
