Fucking hell, it's true. I'm writing as essay on the impact of Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett in Hollywood in the classic film noir period, and I ended up citing Hitler as a reason for the creation of the film noir genre.

Although the wording of the law has always bugged me. Of course if a conversation goes on longer, there is more chance of someone mentioning Hitler. As this post has got longer, the probability of me mentioning custard has approached one.

So what's the strangest place you've ever encountered Hitler and Godwin's Law?

I just checked out Goodwin's law, it seems pretty reasonable.
ZP been dropping quite a few references, and sooner or later people just casually throw these mentions across discussion
Godwin's a genius

Truly that man is someone to be in awe of, his logic works wonders for my mind. One day, I hope to have such a fine head of hair, one can only dream.

Apparently, Godwin's law was meant to try and reduce the number of people calling other people Nazis/Hitler on internet forums. Hmmm...

Isn't Godwins's Law a bit stupid because the longer any discussion gets the probability of mentioning any subject becomes one.
Hitler and Nazi's are just the subject of the first theory.

This is like the Kevin Bacon game. You could play it with other people but generally it ends up being related to Kevin Bacon.

Yeah, that's what I mean. Of course it becomes more likely as you continue talking. But yeah. Nice misquoting of me there.

Ah, but talking about Hitler to give something historical context is not Godwin's Law. Comparing stuff to Hitler is.

Sorry for misquoting and in fact changing the point your post to the opposite, I obviously scanned over the following sentence.

I recently encountered Hitler on a bus. He was wearing a burbury baseball cap and hiding his face behind a book but I'm SURE it was him.

Holy hell that is funny.
I didn't know about Godwin's law until right now, but there is a huge coincidence between that and me right now.

I'm in a computer lab at school right now, and two seats to my left is this girl who me and a friend call a "Nazi" all the time, becauase she has blond hair and blue eyes.
Godwin was right!

Only when the comparison isn't warranted. Sometimes it is valid, and people will just scream "Goodwin" rather than responding.

Well I have recently compared the Jonas Brothers and Twilight to Hitler.
That's rude.
Hitler was not that bad.
MAx is right, they come closer to Satan than to Hitler.
I say they're an evil all in their own category. One which Satan looks at, ponders for a moment, and then states, "I'm not going anywhere near that shit, it's way too hardcore for me."
You said that about my closet yourself...

How can two fad's popular with teenage girls be compared with a genius who comitted genocide?
