Oh yes, a new movie isn't the only thing for Godzilla this year.

Coming to the PS3 December 18 this year it's GODZILLA! The game looks cool so that's a plus. So why is it that, as a Godzilla fanboy myself, am I not excited? Well 1) this is a PS3 game, which is fine except I don't have a PS3; and 2) history. Meet Godzilla: Generations and Godzilla: Generations: Maximum Impact.

This new game coming this year seems to be much the same as the other two (freedom of movement and camera from Generations, kaiju fights of Maximum Impact etc.) not surprising seeing as Namco Bandai made those games on the Dreamcast, however, Generations and Maximum Impact never got out of Japan. Thus, my enthusiasm is being kept in check. What are your thoughts on the new game?

I can't think of a single Godzilla game that isn't either mediocre or straight up terrible. From the looks of things that game isn't going to be bucking the trend. Yet another cash grab from the Godzilla name and nothing else.

Also, this is a PS3 game? It looks like an upres of a PS2 game. The only thing that looks like it has any texture on it is the Godzilla model, the animations for which look really stiff.

So yeah, if you need me to shit all over this thing some more feel free to tell me, I have a lot more negative things I could say.

The graphics look horribly outdated for a 7th gen game. I'm not saying "all you need is graphics" but when a game goes for a photorealistic effect and fails it looks particularly awful. I take it a large part of the fun comes from all the destruction you wreak as Godzilla, but the effects look fake and not very satisfying - I've seen better, more realistic explosions in Mercenarise: Playground of Destruction on the PS2. Lastly there's the timing. It's obviously a movie tie-in.

Are the last two games you posted supposed to be better or worse than the new game?

Well they go back to the SEGA Dreamcast and I won't deny that they look like they play horribly (save the destruction engine, that looks great, despite being on the Dreamcast) the point was that they are similar to the new one to demonstrate that Godzilla games made in Japan tend to stay there.

Edit P.S.: The models used to scan into the game are the S.H. Monsterarts figures.

If that concerns you then good news, the PS3 is region free, so if you ever pick one up you can just import this game and play it with no extra effort.

That said, I'm going to join in on the "it looks kinda crappy" chorus. It has all the signs of a shoddy tie-in and a pretty cheap one at that. Still, if you're willing to overlook that, all the more power to you.

*vomits* Nope, nope, and some more nope. All of my interest in this game just shot off into oblivion. I was hoping for something similar to Godzilla: Save the Earth or Melee, not... whatever this is. Dated graphics only makes it worse. Yeah, I won't be purchasing this game, even in the rare event it gets an English release.

They get plus points for Ghidorah but if they want to sell to Godzilla fans they are missing a hell of a lot of the more popular ones.

Mechagodzilla was one of the least popular. Mothra is shown in her Larval stage but they don't show Rodan, Gigan, Gamera or even Megalon.

Very disappointing advertisement.

All these games look ps1-ish to me, very clunky, stiff and not very interesting.

They are essentially primal rage with 3d environments and buildings. I don't know how you would make a good godzilla game but I personally think you shouldn't bother trying to.

It's like the dragon ball games, you're never going to translate that feeling of power or excitement from anime to game.

Gamera is Daiei not Toho.

Trade Gamera for Ebirah.
