Oh Gog.

Gog is a weird name for a website, this is the first thing I thought of when I saw the thread title.

Well, there are online game retailers, Steam is one I can highly recommend.

gog.com - DRM Free. Do not need to utilise gog.com service in order to play a game. Implies actual ownership of a game.

Steam - Essentially a glorified DRM service. All games are tied to Steam. Does not imply ownership of a game.

Let's just say I'm not quite ready to get in on the whole glorified licensing trend that's going around right now. The prices might be great but for me personally, that doesn't make want to use a service where I don't feel like I actually own what I pay for.

Well, there's Impulse, but their selection is skewed towards strategy games made by smaller developers. Not that they don't have new games in other genres, but they're slow to get them, and their sales aren't as good as Steam sales. However, the service is DRM free.

Edit: There's also Gamer's Gate, Amazon.com's DD service, and Gamestop's DD service, but I know nothing about how any of those services work.

Yes...good place to buy.

I like how you can buy the game and then install/uninstall on w/e computer you want.
No DRM crap...just an .EXE w/some extras like an OST and PDF manual.

Another happy GoG customer. Even if the price is higher I'll buy at GoG over Steam anytime. I'm also getting my completely DRM free copy of The Witcher 2 there.

they are not only legit, they are also awesome, they treat customers very well, not even steam does as good a job as they do

Yeah, GOG is an AMAZING site, and I think you've gotten your answer as to whether or not they're legit. I got Painkiller, Duke Nukem 3D, and NEverwinter Nights from them.

More services need to be like GOG. Great games, great prices, no DRM.

They are legit. I've bought the Baldur's Gate series, the old Fallout games, and the Icewind Dales from them, in spite of my owning these games on disc already. Also bought some other games. Easy to handle format with zero DRM, gotta love it.

They are great and completely legit. Example of they're awesomeness: They sell Broken Sword Shadow of the Templars Director's Cut, so some people complained because they wanted to play it without the additional chapters (because it's in the middle of the story and make the game longer), so they got the original game without the extra chapters and added it to the package of Director's Cut without any additional charge and as a cherry on top they made the original version available for no extra charge to all the people who had bought the Director's Cut before the original game was a part of the package, if that does not prove they are awesome I don't know what does (well maybe the fact that they gave me one of the Jagged Alliance games for free just for being a member since the BETA)

GOG rocks! Love the website design, the DRM free games, and bonus materials that come with it.

Also, I understand how all the gush over GOG may make some want to immediately pile some venom on Steam for its DRM policies, but how can you not give some love to Valve when they got some of the best exclusive PC games there (Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead 2), and their absolutely ridiculous discounts! I got Super Meat Boy for under four bucks yo! Best purchase of a game in a while. Thanks Steam!
