As per their Twitch channel and live streamed announcements GoG has announced they will be launching GoG: Galaxy, a completely optional online client that will provide the same types of features seen from other client platforms as well as its philosophy of DRM free gaming.

So with this announcement of upcoming new client and the expansive additional content that can now effectively be opened up, the question is how will this fare in the current market?

Apologies if this is a redundant topic, Checked before posting in "gaming" forum with no other new threads, and no relevant hit on search bar.

Its cool to have options so I dont see problems with it, although I barely have any games on GOG so I cant really talk much on the subject.

Y'know, I don't think it needs to fare beyond providing a service to GOG's users. It's an amalgamation of features that many users have been asking for for quite a while, especially since new games that require regular (ish) patching were introduced. Hell they're still rolling out the V2.0 installers for quite a few of the old titles, though I'm unsure what that actually entails.

Possibly providing a service for online-playing old and dead games sounds excellent, but I'm unsure how they're going to do it, unless they have a mountain of servers or a very selective approach to it, seeing as VPNs or services like Gameranger are the only option. I am wondering what they mean about that.
