I too have been waiting this long for it.
As for who you play as, the character in the trailer was clearly Issac, though there was another guy at the start who looked unfamiliar, he might not be a playable character though.

Something tells me that you will start out as a character who wears a lot of brown/has brown hair and you will find out has a connection to the element of earth. Along the way you will meet people who have connections to Water Wind and Fire

Golden Sun games were my favorite. Despite being a jRPG, they have an engaging storyline and gameplay is like puzzle solving.
