I've been thinking... Goldeneye (the original on the N64) couldn't be re-released on XBLA due to the rights being partially owned by Nintendo, and also Rare (now owned by Microsoft).

But I was thinking. Some years back, Viva Pinata: Pocket Paradise was released on the DS, despite being a franchise of Microsoft. So does anyone else out there think it's possible Goldeneye could be immortalised on the 3DS?

Not only that, I think that would be the perfect console for it. Seeing as the 3DS only has one analog, and trying to move with your left hand whilst aim using the touch screen with your right is a pain in the arse (anyone who's played Metroid Hunters knows what I'm talking about), the auto-aim feature on Goldeneye would be perfect for the system.

The 3DS also happens to be great for multiplayer, both local and online. And handhelds are generally popular with fans of games from the 32-64bit era.

Does anyone else agree?

Dont forget activision had a hand on it not coming out on XBLA, since they own the actual bond license (to make games) as well. If they couldnt make a deal for the HD version, i dont see how they could make a deal for a 3DS version. Just the way it is :/

Saying that, perfect dark HD DID come out and that was pretty much goldeneye but better :p

Oh, right. I didn't realise Activision jumped in on the license issues. Well, I guess all 3 companies could work something out... maybe.

Or, of course, Perfect Dark on the 3DS would also be fantastic.

It would be, but FPS games on the touch screen give most hand cramps after a bit :/

Considering the original default control scheme only used a single analog stick, I don't think they'd need to use the touch screen for aiming. I'd support a rerelease.

Well, that's it really. There hasn't been a great FPS on a handheld yet. But it just takes someone to make a fun multipler FPS with the same control scheme as Goldeneye/ Perfect Dark to hit the jackpot.

It is possible, with the whole Nintendo/Rare dynamic shaping up in recent history, although with Activision on the licence now I don't think they'd allow it without some serious monetary gain behind it.

With Perfect Dark HD already out on XBLA, and I don't know how well it did but I think anything to do with Goldeneye would have to be dependent on how well Perfect Dark sold
