Recently, Ive taken up fishing as a relaxing pastime. For any escapists out there who don't fish, I definitely recommend it. For those that do, use this thread to post fishing tales, tips, favorite bait, etc.

These stories don't have to be limited to real life; we could even include favorite fishing moments in video games, if you're part of the <.01% of the world population who are into that sort of thing.

First time I went fishing with my uncle, I caught a two foot long fish (as well as a few others that we let go). We later ate it.

NOTE: Never eat fish from Georgian Bay. EVER.

I fish, but it's all in vain. I never catch anything, and whatever ends up on my father's line ends up in my hands, followed by the fish ending up free in the water. I don't even eat fish, or enjoy their smell, so fishing is futile in my case.

Did you know fishing is the most dangerous sport anyway? It claims approximately 180 lives a year. Thank you, MANswers.

Why not, might I ask?

I rarely eat freshwater fish. I've never trusted freshwater for some reason. However, I've never actually gone offshore fishing. I've heard it's pricey and exciting.

I used to fish with my dad, but can't find the motivation to go out on my own.

Ugh... stomach issues will occur, especially if the fish is caught in high-traffic areas. Georgian Bay is not the cleanest of inland water areas.

when i saw the thread i was starting thinking "oh some dude went fishing and never came back", but this actually was "hey fishing is cool". My favorite fishing story is "Vocalist of Lithuanian Black Metal band Angis went fishing on thin ice of lake Michigan, and drowned, what a miss to Lithuanian music"

Well one of my fishing experiences which is kinda funny, though sucked in the end. We went out on Lake Michigan for a few hours fishing in a boat. We had 4 lines with pressure sensitive tips on them so when a fish bit, the rod would spring up and hook at the same time. we were out there for about 2 hours and there was nothing even nibbling the lines. So we reeled in the lines and it turned out they had all become tangled up because a tiny Coho had bit one of the lines but not set off the weight trigger, so had to spend the next few hours untangling the lines

Good news is that after that we began to catch a few steelheads

I do believe "clean inland water areas" is an oxymoron. And by the way, never eat lengthy fish. This means they are old and have consumed enough parasites and waste to ruin your life.

Me, my BF,my BF's brother Alex, and some drunk dickheads went fishing for marlin in Florida to celebrate Alex's return from a tour of duty.

We snagged a huge one and fought with it for a while, yet just when we were about to reel it in, the line snapped.

no good stories...but once while picking up a pole my mother hooked her hand...3 hours later a guy got some pliers and took out the hook. Apparently paramedics can not take out fish hooks. Why that is is unknown to me...anyone know>

Well i personally tried fishing when i was younger and it made me feel worthless because my little brother got a fish and i didn't
it was somewhat a scarring event

but i do have a story i read in the newspaper while i was mowing the lawn

some little 2 year old girl used a barbie fishing pole with a worm and got a 17.5 inch 3 pound brown trout
she screamed while the fish was tugging so her dad pulled it up and out popped the fish and the line broke while it was on the boat and they grabbed it

I caught a big fresh water bream in a brackish canal once. Noone believes me :(

I think ive been used too thick a line all this time. I was going for Walleye's and other fishermen near me caught one after another. One of them caught one while he was fishing for eels using worms. Its pretty rare to catch a walleye with worms. He gave it to me so I could take it home and pretend I caught it.

My better fishing days were years before that when I fished for roach with a bamboo rod and bread in a large duck pond near the trainstation in town. On sunny days you could see the carp swimming in the center, those were too smart to be caught. Theyve seen all kinds of bait and knew wich ones not to bite. On rainy days eels would come out of the water at night and crawl in the wet grass. I caught a few with my bare hands that way. There were also local myths of a monstrous pike swimming around in there, occasionally eating ducks. Never seen it though.

I went fishing for the first time in a river. There are several around Forks, and I am not really sure which one I was fishing. Was fishing for steelhead, unfortunately we never caught anything. The water in the river was a little low for real fishing.

I used to fish in the Gulf of Mexico a lot. Fished for just about everything you find in the waters around there. I mostly fished from the shore.

Fishing has and probably always well be a hobby of mine, I almost never go away without catching something. I release most of what I catch unless I intend to eat it. Really I just like being out there, drinking a few beers, chatting with some friends and occasionally pulling in a fish.

I went fishing with my step-fathers family in lake m something or other in Minnesota. I caught five Walleye. All over 20in with the whopper being 29in. The other guys in the boat. Caught one each.
