Well... it really depends on your preferences really. The series you specified seemed really Moe to me, but eh...
Try to browse a little on myanimelist or if you want an inside tip: go to Random Curiosity. It's a good blog about Anime and presents every new Anime in a new season in an interesting fashion.
Also... -> Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann for manliness and stupidity. Legend of the Galactic Heroes for an epic space opera as well as Terra e. Moe would be K-On! and stuff like that. Go search a bit. It doesn't really makes sense for people to tell you what to watch. You should go out and experience it for yourself.

Code Geass is just amazing in my opinion.

Essentially an experiment in amorality, neither good not bad just doing what needs to be done. With giant fighting robots, immortals and supernatural powers.

Oh and Britannia rules the world, which as a Brit is kind of cool

Big Outlaw Star fan and Noir fan.
Noir is a very complex anime with some good characters and awesome fight scene.

Try looking into a studio called Kyoto Animation. They work off of small budgets but do amazing things with animation, writing, and acting.

Also look into Peach-Pit. Their work might not be up to speed with Gainax or Kyo Ani, but they do make some amazing stuff.

Don't shy away from Japanese exclusives such as Kodomo no Jikan, Toradora, etc. These can sometimes be the best and the deepest anime you will watch.

Be sure to eye anything made by Gonzo skeptically. They claim to give a big budget to a select few shows but I have yet to see one which has consistently decent production value (meaning no copouts in art or sound).

ones like that: Rosario+Vampire, Inumimi, angel densetsu, just look under romance comedy, they're all pretty much like that.

So, a romantic fantasy comedy?

If you don't mind some action, I say Katekyo Hitman Reborn.
The guy in my avatar is from there.

He's a baby hitman.
EDIT: Oh!
Oh!
And FLCL.

Everyone has to watch FLCL.
Yes. Everyone should have to watch Fooly Cooly.

Watch Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. It's a recent re-hash of the FMA series, it follows the manga more closely.
I was wondering about that a few weeks ago when I first saw it. I thought, "This is pretty much exactly the same as the original FMA anime just with a little updated animation and some few extra scenes. WTF is the point of this?" I thought it was like a whole new series or something. But it makes sense now if it more closely follows the manga (I never read it). Is it worth watching if you've already seen the original anime all the way through? (I loved it by the way)

well after
hughes dies
it changes a lot, apparently. My friend has been following the sub (whilst I wait for the dub), and he said it gets really, really different after the part when they
find their teacher
or around that time.

Oh, and for a list of great animes:
Cowboy bebop
Full metal alchemist
Death note
Claymore
Elfen Lied

Slayers is a 90's throwback trip for me!
The Hellsing OVA is pretty good...
Nadesico and 8th MS Team are good mecha.
Ever try Tank police?

.......

I have stated this many times.

"Good anime" is a relative term, different people have different tastes in what they want in an anime.

My personal favorites, are DBZ, FMA, and Digimon.

However, this is just my two cents.

I'd recommend series like Fullmetal Alchemist, Tenga Toppen Gurren Lagann, Death Note, Mushi-Shi, Rurouni Kenshin, FLCL, Cowboy Bebop, Axis Powers Hetalia, The Big O, Outlaw Star, Paranoia Agent, RahXephon, and pretty much anything by Studio Ghibli.

But if you want to try some anime-esque shows, then I'd highly recommend shows like Samurai Jack, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Megas XLR.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, definitely
It's rather over the top, but in a supremely awesome way. It was one of the greatest things I have ever seen.
Cowboy Bebop is also highly recommended by me :D
