Dude it would be impoosible to do, but if it works you would be a god among your friends if you turned these books into puppet shows:
A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess
Tropic of Cancer by Henry Miller
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S. Thompson
fuckin anything by Chuck Palahniuk (i.e. Fight Club, Lullaby, Pygmy)
better yet, The Things They Carried by Tim O' brien
DUDE, HE NEEDS TO DO FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS!!!!! THAT WOULD BE A FUCKED UP PUPPET SHOW BUT IT WOULD ALSO BE HILARIOUS AND AMAZING...AND YES, THE ALL CAPS WAS NECESSARY!!!!!
whats it about?
essentially it's a story about a writers drug trip through Las Vegas. i'm a little fuzzy about some of the stuff, i just know that he's high out of his mind most of the time

How about the Road by Cormac McCarthy, the books not too difficult and the puppet show would consist almost exclusively of two characters walking along.
Not too difficult? It's pretty fucking hard conveying all the desperation, and emptiness that the characters feel. Plus, this book is just all about the emotional relationship between the man and the boy, and a puppet show isn't exactly the best medium through which to represent all that happens in The Road.

Not just A story. THE story.

Basically, Hunter S. Thompson and his lawyer buddy get really really high on psychedelics and go to Las Vegas. It's a REALLY fun book to read, and the movie was surprisingly not terrible.

How about American Psycho? Make that into a puppet show! Or A Clockwork Orange if you are in the mood for a little Ultra-violence.

if he can successfully recreate a puppet version of a scene from this book, he needs to video tape it. it would be amazing.

*thinks for a moment* The Long Walk by Stephen King. You're puppets would just be chattin it up and each of them would slowly go crazy from the walking. It'd be great, and psychotic!

A song of Ice and fire... oh wait

I have no idea for a book that can be made into a puppet show.

Maybe Bartimaeus? Its a good book but the magic might be hard to replicate with puppets...
That weas my first thought too. Just the idea of
Jaime and Cercei in the form of paper glued to Popsicle sticks rubbing on each other made me laugh or he could do the Red Wedding that would work as a puppet show lulz

I would suggest you do Animal Farm as others have suggested and if it is the advanced class what better way to impress your teacher then to read something that is considered advanced? or you could do Foundling By D.M. Cornish, I really liked it and its only about 400 pages.

Well he would get a whole bunch of new lady fans for it. And don't let anyone fool you, it's totally worth the negligible hit to your integrity.

Is there a length limit to this puppet show? I would suggest "The Stand" by Steven King...however it would probably be like a 5 hour show. But it would be epic and intense.

i have to read for school. but it can be ANY book. whats a good book that i can make into a puppet show?
Most people are suggesting complicated books, so I am going to suggest some that DID work for me in a puppet show!

You could try anything by Dr. Seuss, he is the author of books of The Cat in the Hat, The Cat in the Hat Comes Back! and my personal Favorite The Lorax.

Also some chapters of any books by Roald Dahl, like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but if it's going to be a quite long show I do think you'll be able to fit the entire book in it. You could also try Charlie and the Great Crystal Elevator, Matilda, James and the Giant Peach, Fantastic Mr. Fox, etc.

Also you could try The Dragon and the Butterfly by Michael Ende if you puppet show isn't going to be so long...

But if you plan to only read I suggest Bartimaeus Trilogy, starting with The Amulet of Samarkand, or The Knife of Never Letting Go, the first book on the Chaos Walking Trilogy. Those books are meant for children.

Also, The Bartimaeus Trilogy are THE best Books I have read ever, beating The Hobbit, LOTR, Harry Potter, etc. At least in my opinion.

The Dexter series by Jeff Lindsay are pretty good, but I am not sure how easy a puppet version would be. Good for you if you try though.

i would hate that project
i get skiddish when i comes to stage work especially comic stage work
but ill suggest any of the percy jackson books they're fun easy to read and i finished most of them over the course of a day
plenty of scenes in those would work for a puppet show

also what kind of high school does this? seems like a grade school project

Ha ha, Portnoy's Complaint, by Phillip Roth would be easy to adapt because you could just act out the therapy sessions. One of the best 20th century novels. Your school might not like it though. You may get suspended or expelled. You will probably have to go see a counsellor of some kind. Look you better just forget Portnoy's Complaint.
