Wow I just recently got a job at McDonalds and in only a week I'm considering just canceling my pre-order on Battle Field 3. I have no free time. In between the homework and working and trying to get my drivers license (And learning to spell License on my first try) I have 0 free time. I haven't even touched my xbox in days. I used to come home and just sit on my Xbox for 4 hours now I get home and just become overwhelmed with everything I need to do. I can't even imagine having a girlfriend at this point. But at the same time I really like it. My whole entire life has been so....bleh. I never do anything and now I have actual responsibility and money to use when I do have free time. How did you guys feel when you started having a job or going to college what ever took up your free time. I'm overwhelmed and relieved at the same time, contradictory I know. Again how about you?

It gets worse. You have to fight for your free time and budget what you have. As it is I'm probably going to cut mine in half with a second job if I can get it.

I felt this way during the summer when I was working from 7 till 3. Now I feel that way a lot less, but if the job I signed up for comes through, it'll return to that.

My advice is to get a calender and mark down all the shit you have to do. After you've done this, where is it blank? Fill that up with fun stuff. If you truly feel like you're going insane from it, quit something in your life to make yourself feel better. Unless you live in a crappy country with no social security programs, you can go without a job for at least a little while.

Always be sure that you're not working a dead-beat job with no progress towards a better job. Same with school, make sure you're going to school to get a career you'll be happy with or studying an interesting subject. If you keep those goals in mind, it'll get better.

Licence. If you have a license, you can give out licences.

as for what I did when I started work; mostly panic about getting home. It was a night job, and I finished long after the last train and bus home were viable means, so I had to get taxis back every night. That was basically taking about a third of the day's wages just to get home, and I was meant to be taking driving lessons!

Having the extra money was very cool even if it was only a part-time job. It got less cool when more and more of my wage was taken up paying bills for gas and water I don't use and food I don't get to eat before my sisters do, but hey ho.

And come next week I'll be redundant with no job. Ouch.
But on the plus side, more free time to write the sci-fi novel I've been bolting together in ym mind. Or more realistically, more time to play TF2 and WoW.
Oh, and Deus Ex, Dungeons of Dredmor, Minecraft and Terraria.

Don't forget that the new season of FiM starts Saturday, give you something to watch while you grind away in WoW :p

OT, I can understand how you feel, most of us have been through it. You just have to take it easy, plan your time and schedule very carefully and make sure you always fit in at least a little bit of time every day to relax, no matter how you do it. You'll get more used to having less time and it'll be much less stress later, you'll see. Best of luck!

Ha, awesome. I just started my job at Mcdonalds too although I'm still training. Just finished my second shift yesterday. I'm guessing you're passed that and working properly now?

If you don't mind, how fast did you find you got used to your job? Cause at the moment, everything is still pretty new and I'm still trying to remember a lot of stuff.

At the moment, I'm out of school and won't be starting Uni until February and since I only have 11 hours this week, I haven't run out of time to do other things. Guessing things will be pretty crazy when February comes around. I feel pretty good now that a fair amount of money is coming in for the first time in my life. I can start saving for bigger things like computers etc.

I immediately thought about my Skyrim pre-order when I read the thread's title... I should visit a doctor.

I have a daughter, I study, and I have a full-time job. And, yet, I never felt I "didn't have time" for gaming. Gaming is something I do, as natural as watching the 8 o'clock news. If you can't find some time in your schedule to play a little, I think you have an unhealthy relationship with your gaming habits and manage time extremely poorly.

We game because we like it, but remember that it isn't a job (for most of us).

Or you have an insanely busy work/school schedule. I wound up taking 3 years off gaming for work and school reasons(yeah stupid younger me did full time work and full time school and my job was an hours drive away minimum) I barely had time for sleep after homework was done and that includes doing homework whilst on all my breaks at work.

When I first started working I did a summer camp...well taxable work that is. Then I worked at a locksmith shop with my dad and uncle. And then started school at that point. The only time I felt overwhelmed was having a holiday job whilst at my last job and that was because everytime I could get hours at my second job someone decided to call out and I got guilted into coming in and covering for them. Now I realize how stupid that was since I had to come in even when I was sick enough that I could barely see straight enough to drive and then spent half my shift in the bathroom. but that is neither here nor there. I'm relieved right now that I have some semblance of a job even if it only lasts a month and a half(yay for seasonal jobs) but anxious cause i have an interview for a full time day job and my seasonal job is nights. so anxious about sleep schedule. Mine's screwed enough as it is and I usually run on UK time but this will screw it up so badly....

Your case is kinda extreme, April. When you don't have time to even get some sleep, of course any healthy person would not game. But that's the exception, and not the norm. I think most of us can squeeze some quality play time during an average week.

Even though I have no life to speak of, I've conditioned myself for this. I mostly play handhelds, perfect for what I'm assuming are those little pieces of time that you actually get to yourself in life.

Yeah, I work 6 days a week and am a full time student. However, with the importance of my coursework, I cut myself down to 5 days a week recently and that made all the difference in the world. Now I have saturday and sunday off from work and a 3 day weekend (for every weekend) from school so I am now able to manage time better and live a full life. You just need to manage time better so that you have time for everything. I just got a girlfriend recently, but she is long distance (for now) so I have to stick to talking on the phone with her. I talk to my new girlfriend almost every night and play games on the weekends when I'm off work and caught up with school. Just don't burden yourself too much, make the best use of the time given to you, don't over work yourself, and don't limit yourself to just work and school.

If you really want to do something you will make time for it. For example I work and go to school and do all sorts of side projects for my Uni, but at the same time I make time to read here and post from time to time.

When I was working at Lowe's sometimes I worked 14 hour days, on top of going to college, doing homework, and taking care of my other responsibilities, I was lucky if I got to sleep, let alone play video games.

See, that's why you join the Navy. Depending on your ship, you can get anywhere from 4 hours on, 20 off to 20 on 4 off. I either case, that's at least 4 hours where you'll be doing absolutely nothing. In that case, you break out the PC or the 360 or the PS3 (unless you're on a sub, but then you have other problems than time management) and you game for a while. My cousin is on the USS Ronald Reagan right now and his day consists of 5 hours of maintenance on the A-6's and the rest just screwing around with the other engineers.

That's what being an adult is all about, sadly. I'm 28 and I work 40 hours a week. Once you settle into your job you'll FIND the time. I still manage to fit in going to the gym, gaming, maintaining my YouTube channel, seeing friends and even getting a full night's sleep.

Don't cancel your order, you'll regret it!
