Can you remember a game you played before where the story and setting was godawful but you really liked the character? Or just someone who was in the game but not the protagonist. Maybe vice versa, you hated the characters but thought the game's setting and storyline had a lot of potential. That game for me would have to be Enclave, I personally thought the gameplay was pretty decent for the time (The sword and shield combat and other tolkienesk sort of things that came with it) but I felt sort of let down by the characters themselves.

So, which game or character is it for you?

Welcome to the escapist, someone will be along to take your drink order in a moment.

OT: I don't have an underwhelming game with a good character, but I do have the opposite: Kingdom Hearts. Both games are fantastic and unbelievable amounts of fun, but the characters suck (except for Cloud, he's so dreamy), how they managed to do that surprises me to this day.

Colonel Shepard I don't know why, but I liked that Mute Marine bastard, Shame OF was filled with dumb AI and bugs.

Not saying OF was bad, But just generally had some issues.

Also, Welcome to the escapist! Play nice, Discuss, and don't go into the basement!

Welcome to the Escapist.

OT: Let me tell you, I love MOTHER 3. It is a great game, while Japan only. But Aeolia... I mean, the other Magypsys redeem themselves in some way, but Aeolia is an ass, end to end.
When she dies, she's about the only Magypsy I was happy to see go. Even Locria, who is a villain in the game, was a great character.

Rose from Legend of Dragoon (Old PSX game), Barrett from FFVII, and (maybe) Captain Price from the MW games. Liked those characters, but didn't like the games that they were in.

Welcome to the Escapist :D

Anyway, I have... five.

Tenenbaum, in Bioshock- I was amazed with how much I liked her, she was by far the best thing about that game (next to the bee hand.)

The other four are Paine, Baralai, Nooj and Gippal in FFX-2. The little Crimson Squad subplot is what kept me playing that game in the end.

I adore Fang and Vanille in Final Fantasy XIII, but I didn't really like the game.

Shepherd and Makarov from MW2. The reason for Shepherd is simply because he is voiced by Lance Henriksen and he does not give a crap about Danger Close. Also, I dunno why I say Makarov, maybe because he is so cold and mysterious, you never really find out much about him and that makes him more of a badass.

People are going to hate me for this, but I thought Wrex was a fascinating character, even though I hate Mass Effect with all my heart

In MGS 1 one of my favorite games of all time,Gray Fox and Psycho Mantis where awesome only problem is that they are kind of downplay they dont do much or are seeing trough most of the game and i dont like that because both are awesome and they are killed in the game i wanted them to be in the sequels (i know screaming mantis was psycho mantis in MGS 4 but he should have been in more games)

Might be obvious but I can't think of what OF stands for for the life of me.

OT: One thing comes to mind for the vice versa is Final Fantasy X-2. I loved the battle system and character progression in that game. The class system was great and brought back some fond memories from the class based Final Fantasys like Tactics and FF5. As for the whole concept of the game and the characters I thought were a bit lackluster and paled in comparison to FFX.

Despite all that I loved the combat system enough that I actually 100 percented that game. Took about 5 playthrus and 125 hours.
I'm refering to Half-Life: Opposing Force. :)
