I've been playing my electric guitar for a few months now, and I'm starting to look into eventually getting a new one. I currently have an Epiphone Les Paul Special II (~$170), and I'm looking for a guitar that, like the Les Paul, can play all sorts of music. The only music I probably won't be playing is jazz, so no jazz guitars please.

I did see an Epiphone G-310 SG that might suit me (~$250). So please give suggestions around that price, and opinions on that guitar itself.

Squier do some good cheap guitars, you should check them out. A Telecaster with some humbuckers would be the type of thing you need, I expect you can get one cheapish.

I've got an Epiphone SG 400 like this: http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Epiphone-G400-SG-Electric-Guitar?sku=518291

I've had it for about five years and it plays great.

Les Pauls are always good. I use my Standard Epiphone to play metal, rock, country, and acoustic. It's all about amplifiers and effects. I'd suggest getting a more expensive one. I have one for 500$, and it's very awesome.

Yup, pretty much exactly that. I used to have one and I loved it (I've since moved on to more expensive things).

I have an Ibanez Gio, thats maybe 6 years old, I got it for around 200$, and I have a Line6 Spider II amp, which I think I got for $300, the combination is good.

Washburn makes some nice guitars. My acoustic is a washburn and it works amazingly. They sell electrics to, http://www.washburn.com/electrics/x-series/Page-2.html something from there might work for you.

I have a Spider III which I got for $100 and I love it. Also, I have heard good things about Ibanez.
