I'm pretty sure "Devil Went Down to Georgia" is country, and I can listen to that song without cringing.
I think it's "friends in low places" by garth brooks, older song, can't remember much of it, but if memory serves it was pretty good.
Upon looking up a few [ready: all that I can think of] songs that I didn't mind hearing, it seems Garth Brooks may be the only country singer that I could say I like.
Well as said several times before, Rascal Flatts generally does very good work. I've also found Brad Paisley to be entertaining...Granted though, part of that is due to how his older work tends to be rather tongue-and-cheek. Case in point:
And while I can't speak for the rest of her work (she kinda disappeared), I'd say Jessica Andrews' "Who I Am" is worth a listen.
nothing released withing the past 15 to 20 years, go back 30-50 years. this new stuff is utter shit, too much mixing of genre's to even still call it country music and most of it just doesn't work. I can name only a hand full of relatively decent country songs not recorded by any of the legends that is tolerable;
don't take the girl
Almost home
waiting on the woman
Paint me a Birmingham
there's a few other that don't immediately come to mind but that's pretty much it
I recommend you listen to the discographies of the following artists:
Johnny Cash
Hank Williams Sr.
George Jones
Conway Twitty
Willie Nelson
Lee Greenwood
There's definately elements of both Country and Blues. It's debatable to what extent one outwheighs the other, but I'd say he's an amalgam of the two. But whatever, I'm not really a genre stickler.
