OK, so just yesterday I picked up a hitchhiker at the motorway entrance on the way home from work. They were going pretty far south (over 400km) but I figured "Hey, one town closer is still one town closer, right?".

Sadly, as it turns out, I'd read my signs wrong. I still took them 20km further south, but down the wrong track - my branch of the motorway ultimately leads to another big town down south, but one that's more SW instead of SSW. I know they can get to one town from the other, but when you're talking a distance of 400km, any deviation on that is going to have some pretty big consequences at the other end of the line - possibly another 200km.

I only realised this today when I took the same branch of the motorway to get home.
I hope they got to where they were going okay...

So, Escapists, what acts of kindness have you managed to foul up?

A car stopped and the driver asked me for directions - I ended up sending him in a completely different direction. I felt bad for the guy when I realised it - he wasn't from my town and wanted to go back home. I might have doubled his travel time, I don't know. I gave him pretty detailed instructions where to go, which road to take and wished him nice travelling, only I sent him off towards a different city.

Another time, I suggested to a friend of mine to install Windows XP SP 3 (the unofficial one that came out several years before). His video card exploded. Well not literally but it died. Bad drivers that came with the OS. And furthermore, the OS was utter shit. I felt sorry for him...but then I thought "better him than me". I was going to install that on my own PC the following week.

Never, I don't do helping strangers - a stranger is just a victim I haven't raped yet...

I mean... ahem.

I very recently told a friend I caught his girlfriend being very chummy with another bloke(saw them in the same restaurant as me), turned out to be her brother. They're still together (my mate and the girl, not the girl and her brother), but they had a very frosty patch as a result of this.
