Good Downer Endings (Spoilers)

Shadow hearts covenant that has a great ending where they actually stick to their guns and no ridiculous miracle happens that changes the inevitable outcome.
May give that game another go I really enjoyed the story and characters it had just the right amount of ridiculous to keep it interesting but is grounded enough to keep it believable (in its own weird fiction sort of way).

Surprised no-one's mentioned Crisis Core yet. That was an incredibly sad ending, in spite of the fact that if you're playing it, you'll have played VII and know what's going to happen.
Even though I was crying like a girl by the end, it was extremely well done. Damn you Square, for toying with my emotions like that...
