So a while ago i learn that Batlefield 3 wont have moding support because of the engine been to advance. I was disappointed case im a big fun of moding, then i watch the gameplay trailer again and my mind was once again boglet by the awesomenes of the engine! So i look back at my favorite moding games (Fallout NV,Fallout 3, Oblivion, etc) and see that on there own the games engines were shit BUT with mods (and they were ALOT of them) they were an awesome funride of awesomenes, hell i stil play Oblivion for Gods sakes!!
So i ask you this:
Do you want your games do have shity engines but awesome moding communitys?

I'd prefer the second one, because I'm a console gamer, and I can't use mods. So, I'd rather the developer focus on making their game the best it can be.

He loved modding so much, he didn't think it needed the extra 'd'.

I'm primarily a console player (yes, one of the unwashed one, please do not cull me, oh glorious PC overlords), so my interactions with mods is rather sparse, so I suppose my lot in with the Oblivion community.

Nothing says awesome like a female white haired elf with Ezio's costume from Assassin's Creed 2.

To answer the OP, none of those things matter if the original game is terrible. Even modders have to work from something.

What do you mean by a "good" engine? A good engine doesn't just have the capabilities for awesome looking graphics, it needs to be well optimised and work well under different circumstances.

Being moddable is a very high factor of a good engine.

I don't think their is much of a contradiction, cryengine 2 is still one of the best around and is highly modable

What do you want from mods? I tend to only bother with total conversions, although I must admit to modding Fallout 3 quite a bit to make it more Fallouty (and I modded out GFWL, best mod of all time). I think of that more as a fan made patch though and I've used lots of those (STALKER, VtM:Bloodlines, KOTOR2 etc.) Modding for more weapons or nude elves just doesn't do it for me. A mod like Nehrim though, well that is a different matter.

I expect there will be mod tools or a development kit for Frostbite 2.0 in time (it sounds like an unwieldy monster at the moment from all reports) but I wouldn't expect DICE to delay the game while they whip that beast into submission.

Eh, even on the PC games I have, I don't mess around with mods. Nothing against them, mind you, just none have grabbed my eye.

So I'd opt for the latter.

What if he's talking about moding? I mean, I've never moded a game before, but for all we know he could on to something groundbreaking.

OT: That's a tough decision considering all the great mods for Valve games and Bethesda's shit, but I'm slightly more inclined to the second. I'd rather have both, obviously, but the actual game is a bit more important.

You can have mods for an awesome engine, just saying. Sounds like they want an excuse to force players to buy $10 map packs.
