Usually once a month or so a thread "recommend me an anime" pops up on the forums. This time however I would want to turn it to "Recommend me a good anime fanfiction". Lately I've been reading more and more, unfortunately though I'm running out of stories that I initially found to be interesting. In the end its hard to decide upon whether a fanfiction is good or not after reading only a short description and I'm sure I've missed quite a lot of good ones only because I didn't like their summary. Of course I will also gladly check out works based not only on anime/manga... as long as I have some basic knowledge of the base material universe. And so to summarize, can you recommend me any good fanfictions that can be read on the internet?

There's "Reunions are a Deleted" (formally "Reunions are a *****"). The story is simply a "What if" crossover of "Stargate vs Battlestar Galactica". It's an interesting read if you're a fan of both, though the author massively overstates the power of nuclear weapons and the effect they have on the environment (probably intentionally for shock value, but hey, if that's the case then it worked).

Also: "A second chance". Evangelion fic. Asuka and Shinji get sent back in time to their bodies during the war after spending years in the post apocalyptic wasteland after the series. The formate is a little odd though, with each chapter alternating between them after they're sent back, and them after the end of the world.

Last on my list of recommendations (though I always have more) is "Renegade Reinterpretations". Basically, it's lore for Mass Effect, but the lore is of one where first contact was with Battarians and not the Turians, changing everything and destroying the notion of Paragons.

It's hard to recommend fics without a specified fandom. I can name dozens of Ranma 1/2 fics, for example, but I'd be wasting your time since the chances of you being into Ranma are close to nil.

If you happen to be into Eva, I'd suggest Eva: R. It's a "second season" that disregards the movie ending. It's fairly old, but it's still notable for being one of the earliest multi-media fanworks ever. It's mostly text, but some of it was adapted into comic book form, there were full-blown trailers using VA from the official English dub cast, etc.

Another interesting Eva fic (also an oldie, so not sure how accessible it is now) is Garden of Eva, a sometimes funny, often raunchy, sometimes sad continuation of the series/movie wherein Shinji and co. are stuck in that trippy stage room, building worlds to try and exist in. Also, they count how many corners the square room has. It's something like 800.

Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality is really good in my opinion, and starts here. [http://hpmor.com/chapter/1]

Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality seconded, it's an extremely popular HP fanfic with it's own active fandom. (What is Harry Potter was a prodigous scientist wannabe, and refused to take "magic" at face value but decided to exploit it's logical implications?)

My personal favorite HP fanfiction is the Alexandra Quick novel series, starts here [https://www.fanfiction.net/s/3964606/1/Alexandra-Quick-and-the-Thorn-Circle]. (It's an Elsewhere story with an original cast and plot, and an American setting. Female muggelborn protagonist with a Dark reputation, a more mature take on social injustice than in canon.)

If you are not opposed Frozen Elsanna shipping, then you might want to read r9kElsa Is Suffering [https://www.fictionpress.com/s/3172150/41/r9kElsa-Is-Suffering]. (Modern day AU with angst, and Elsa being a shut-in 4chan person).

Yeah, I think that's a main cause of the format's bad reputation, even more so than the infamous lack of a quality filter. That works as an excuse for dismissing them, but in any other medium such dismissals would be countered by cries of "Sturgeon's law!".

You call all anime perverted bullshit, and a hundred anime fans tackle you with typical lists of Cowboy Bebop, Attack on Titan, Mushishi, Legend of Galactic Heroes, etc.

You call all fanfiction teenage-girl-written wish fulfillment, and there is no organized "fanfiction fandom" to counter you with a mutually accepted list of "best fanfictions".

The only reason why more people know My Immortal than Methods of Rationality, or Cupcakes than Fallout: Equestria, is because the latters' target audience is limited, while everyone can admire the grotesque.

Dragon Ball Z multiverse is pretty cool. It's basically a bunch of alternate universes where all sorts of shit can happen.

Thanks for suggestions, I will definitely check them out.
As for more detailed answers

I didn't watch Battlestar Galactica but I guess I can simply look at the story from Stargate side more. I hope that this fanfic doesn't rely too much on assumption that anyone who reads it understands its lore.

I watched the original Evangelion series but to be honest I didn't really like them for some reason that I don't remember now... however I've already read one Evangelion crossover before so I guess I can still look at those fanfics.

And here I thought I've read all good Mass Effect fanfics already, but I don't remember this one. Definitely will check it out.

I never finished reading HP, (I think I've read 6 first books, later on I kinda lost interest with them) but if the fanfics are good I can try at least to read them and see how it goes.

Unfortunately aside from trailer for the movie I don't know anything about Frozen so I will pass this one.

And I'm actually following this one already, but still thanks for the suggestion.

That's enough base knowledge, neither of the two recommended ones are reliant on intricate HP plot knowledge. Methods' is like a critical reimagination of the HP universe's concepts and principles, while Alexandra Quick is like a whole new fantasy series where people still happen to say "Avada Kedavra" a lot.

I wouldn't consider a fanfic "good" by any definition of the word, but if the Divine Comedy counts as a fanfic... actually it would also be rather boring and self-righteous. Dat prose though :p

If you want a list of decent or good fanfics, you can usually find links for them on TVTropes. I found some rather good ones on there like Shinji and Warhammer 40k and He Who Fights Monsters.

Anything by Magus523, Maelgrim, American Vigor or Erico, the first of whom got me into it too. Granted many of those are novelizations, but good ones. On the same tack, the novelization of Warcraft II by Jeremy and The Lion of Ivalice by Obsidian Dawn.

Blam!

https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8677337/1/Guilty-Sparks

This is a Mass Effect/Halo crossover. Though instead of the usually "UNSC curbstomp council" or "Master Chief in ME!"

It's a story where Shepard and crew are sent towards Reach. Things are explain how it happen and it does seem logical how it would happen. The second story is where it picks up after Reach, meaning Halo (And the flood. Yay!)

Blue Sky [https://www.fanfiction.net/s/7434133/1/Blue_Sky] is supposedly a very good Portal II fanfic, with lots of recommendations, but I personally never found time to start reading it.

Also, this is not a fanfiction of anything, but still aimed at the people-who-read-amateur-novels-on-their-computer target demographic that is otherwise hard to catch, so I meantion it here:

Worm [http://parahumans.wordpress.com/category/stories-arcs-1-10/arc-1-gestation/1-01/] is a completed web serial, taking place in a superhero genre. It is renowned for it's quickly escalating scope, and it's multitudes of competent, deep characters, heroes and villains, protagonists and antagonists alike (the two are often not the same), who all have well thought out motives, powers, and actions.

If you've seen much of Naruto, I recommend the "Legacy of the Rasengan" series by Tellemicus Sundance. The storyline itself doesn't diverge too much from canon, but it has easily the best action sequences I've ever seen in a fanfiction, and I don't say that lightly. And if you're so inclined, also check out "Team 8" by S'TarKan. A HUGE diversion from canon, and very well written.

There is also "My Disjointed Life" by Pendrum, a Final Fantasy 7 alternate universe fic in which the characters are college students, and is told entirely from Cloud's perspective. It's easily one of the funniest things I've ever read, and also has a tastefully serious side to it.

And of course, there is "Those Lacking Spines", a Kingdom Hearts fic by several different authors (though posted under the alias "Organization VI") that lampoons the everloving CRAP out of bad fanfiction, particularly the things that most commonly appear (High school AUs, Mary Sues, Self-Inserts, bad crossovers, and so on). Also one of the funniest things I've ever read, and particularly cathartic if you're absolutely sick of the aforementioned tropes in fanfiction.

I'm going to recommend Fallout: Equestria, basically it's about if My Little Pony was mixed with the fallout universe. You only need to be familiar with one them, I didn't even watch MLP until I was about a third of the way through. It's very long, the word count is longer than Lord of the Rings trilogy, there are lots of fanfiction made about this fanfiction, and it's one of the most memorable fanfictions i've read.

Read it here: http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/04/story-fallout-equestria.html

Eh, there's only one Fanfic I've ever fully read through, but I wouldn't call it good, though I thoroughly enjoyed reading the train wreck it was.
It was some twilight crap, that at one point had a battle on a spaceship that involved 1000 ninjas, 1000 zombies, 1000 pirates and 1000 demons. Oh and the ship managed to go so fast it created a time portal... This speed was obtained from terminal velocity only.

If anyone knows the name of that, let me know. Would love to read it again.

The author Peptuck [https://www.fanfiction.net/u/348055/Peptuck] runs the gamut of genres, from the 'war is hell' novelization of Tiberium Wars, What If Firefly's Book and Wash survived the movie in Foward and what happens when you mash Borderlands with Mass Effect. (Mister Torgue unveiling his new corporate headquarters of Urdnot-Torgue on Illium by blowing up the top ten floors in the shape of a giant flaming middle finger aimed at the headquarters of Hyperion and Maliwan, all the while playing air guitar on live galactic television.)

Hakumei [https://www.fanfiction.net/s/4119917/1/Hakumei] is a Naruto series with a nice twist, Danzo kills off the Hokage with the six year old team 7 plus Hinata, Neji and Sai secretly watching. They escape Konoha, picking up Haku, Gaara etc and it isn't all fun and games (the first winter almost kills all of them). Eventually they are found by a Sannin and plan to take back the Leaf.

To Soar into the Sunset: A Night Fury's Odd Memoir [https://www.fanfiction.net/s/6038952/1/To-Soar-into-the-Sunset-A-Night-Fury-s-Odd-Memoir] A How to Train Your Dragon fic with the POV of a skilled signaler shot down during combat, trying to solve the mystery that killed his father. Oh yeah, he's now being called Toothless to his horror. Lots of snark and a rather nice take on the HTTYD plot.

The Enemy of My Enemy [https://www.fanfiction.net/s/4305125/1/The-Enemy-of-My-Enemy] If you hated what 343 did with the Elites and wanted to see humanity being forced to work with them in order to survive a Brute horde, eventually becoming fire forged allies then the story of the Outer Colony Crassus is for you.

Lost in the Woods [https://www.fanfiction.net/s/4603570/1/Lost-In-The-Woods] Picard gets pissed at Q after the Borg incident and Q decides to teach him another lesson, by transporting the Enterprise into the path of a certain Firefly class transport. Has a sequel dealing with the aftermath of the Enterprise's visit for both universes.

Razor's Edge [https://www.fanfiction.net/s/6049842/1/Razor-s-Edge] A decent novelization of the 2nd and 3rd ME games, expanding on some plot points and locations. Deals with Shepard and Tali.

Flipside [http://www.fimfiction.net/story/50167/Flipside] Spike is the pony, Twilight is the dragon, seems like a standard plot right? Nope, Spike Flail is an up and coming news reporter for the Canterlot Sun, sent to record the 1000th Summer Sun celebration in Ponyville. Meanwhile Princess Celestia is preparing for her last day as ruler...

Those are some of the long creations I've read, there are also tonnes of shorter stories as well like Berseker Hell [https://www.fanfiction.net/s/3315463/1/Berserker-Hell] where a 40k Khornite Berseker finds himself trapped in the Hundred Acre Wood and Caught by the Bolo [https://www.fanfiction.net/s/2957124/1/Caught-by-the-Bolo] where one of humanities homicidal robotic creations (the Cylons) meets one of it's staunchest robotic protectors.

Well, I don't think that posting a list of a few hundred (if not over a thousand) entries long would be suitable here. Of course I could have made a much smaller list listing main points of interest for me, however If I ask for any fanfictions I'm sure to get a few suggestions from sources that I wouldn't think about otherwise.

Ok, I just chose a scattershot of completed works as a baseline, I tend to read these at work due to the portability and because its cheaper than ebooks.

PM if you want more links, though Michael Tabbut suggestion was where I first found some of these stories.

HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH(it's pronounced Thirty H's)
It's a Harry Potter fanfiction written by a guy called secondpillow, trying to describe it would be for naught, as it is insane and also very short, just read the first page and you'll probably know if it is your kinda stuff

And also anything by Hans Von Hozel, i think he's a german guy who tried writing stories to improve his english, and failed comically and miserably
"Hallo there, my name is Hans von Hozel. I like to write stories to make an improve of my English. Please read and enjoy! :)"

"I had idea when one day, I going in Berlin. Suddenly, everything in English! I could not understand it. It was like it in another language, so I make English and do stories in it. : D"
- Hans von Hozel
His fanfiction.com account got taken down, but his work lives on in a Tumblr page
Death Note

Light Yagami were sit on a bench.

"Wow what boring of a day!" said Light, relax on bench.

Suddenly, a cloud appeared and a book down fell from the sky and hit his head.

"Ow" said Light, "Hey a book!"

There was book!

"Hahahaha I am make a stealing!" said Light, sit with book.

He look at book and see a Death Note.

"Is fun!" say Light, "To create this stealing!"

Light got a crayon from his pocket.

"I should right my name on this book so no one else can make this their stealing!!!"

And he writ his name in the book.

Then he closed it and died.
