Maria from Silent Hill 2 was a damn fine female supporting character, in my opinion. She served her role and actually made an impact on the story. Sure, gameplay-wise she was a tart, but at least she was a tart you could care about.

Yeah, but Midna is intitially a royal *****.

Do any of you even know who Kai is?
You're either talking about Dragonball Z or the chick from Heavenly Sword.
Whats Dragonball Z?
I would hate to ruin the surprise for when someone forces you to find out. Don't let anyone fool you, after the first Season the rest of it is garbage. The fight from that season is the best in the whole series and nothing else comes close.
I'm gonna guess its an Anime series, the kind that relies on bright flashes and yelling over character development and identifiable situations.
no... it is THE anime that relies on bright flashes and yelling over character development and identifiable situations.
Let's not forget utterly rediculous haircuts.

Jody from 'Metal Wolf Chaos'. /thread

"You know, I always loved that big beautiful tower of glowing lights, on Christmas they would bring out a giant tree and decorate it so that it was absolutely gorgeous! I bet it would look even better if it was blown up!"

...And then I fell in love.

Tennenbaum from BioShock (not many video game characters evoke genuine sympathy from me, but she pulled it off), Ashley and Liara from Mass Effect, and Ruby from Dark Cloud (not much to offer plot-wise but she's effective in combat). I didn't see many current-gen characters so I figured to balance the timeline a bit.

While they aren't support characters (they're leads), I want to give a shout-out to Samus and Maia from Summoner: A Goddess Reborn (a game I logged an indecent number of hours on). Though Samus doesn't really have much plot around her, both are very strong characters that endeared themselves far more effectively to me than a lot of men.
Mass effects women sucked, Ashley Williams should have been a man like god intended. Liara well should just bend over and let you take her from behind like the schoolgirl she is.(That shit was annoying.) Bastilia from KOTOR 1 was so much better in many ways since she wasn't so much like a lot of women in games. Her boobs were preportional, She evoked emotion and well her dialog was decent. A lot better then ashley's. "THE ALIENS WILL BE THE DEATH OF US!!!!"

While probably not giving the kind of female support you're thinking of, Kreia from KotOR 2 was awesome as a supporting character.
She gave that master like role, And had a lot of backstory. I still remember when she said" Don't go and charge in the handmadiens loading docks!"

I think Cortana is a pretty good supporting character. Since no one else is justifying their choice I won't be (although some raving idiot will probably convince enough sane individuals to make me).
Before or after she keeps annoying you by taking over the entire screen?
Both and during ;)
I will say this, she looks damn good in her electro-bikini.
Ah, yes, yes she does.
Plus, you kinda care about her.
Not after the ***** put herself on a flood ship crashed into my city, Then shes not actually on that god damn ship so I have to go after her AGAIN to get that purple ass back in my suit serving me.

Actually you don't. As a male you can say to Kreia in regards to the female Sith assassin "Just because I saved her doesn't mean I'm gonna charge up her loading ramp."

And I don't really understand you're complaint about Cortana. Are you objecting against her sending a message the only way she could to get you to go to the Ark searching for a way to stop the Flood and in so doing manipulating the Gravemind into taking his entire army to the Ark to stop you allowing you to destroy the Flood threat with the rebuilt Installation 04?

Yea, I liked Kreia. On a second thought, I liked all female support characters in both the KotOR games.

Yes i'm against her seizing up my screen right before a very hard fight without a checkpoint in sight taking up my time. She could have sent a damn email instead.

I thought Cortana was done well: she did end up being a damsel in distress, but her usual attitude was witty and likable.

Though Alyx Vance is great too, what with her charm and 1337 fighting skills.

Why has no one mentioned GLaDos yet? Sure she's not organic and she tried to kill you. But she is still female.

Having played Half-Life 2 recently, what the heck makes Alyx so goddamn special besides being in a great game? Seriously, I fail to see it. She doesn't do anything especially amazing or out of the ordinary for a supporting character. She's good, sure, but not the hands down best be all end all female support. Now if that priest in Ravenholm was a babe, we'd be cooking with gas!

My personal pick for a supporting female character would probably have to be Tifa Lockhart in (who doesn't know this?) Final Fantasy VII, pretty much because she's one of the only female characters that has a deep connection to the main plot and that fights up front with the boys- hand to hand no less. Obligatory boob comment here.

Cortana is annoying, and Alyx is cannon fodder (Even if she is hot...).

Silk Fox (Jade Empire) for me. She just seemed like if there was trouble, she was actually useful.

She is a machine, okay a genetic/organic-tech-machine-ish thingy, sort of.
But still i doubt she's actually female, she might have a feminine tone of voice but i really doubt she's female, being a machine(-ish) and all...

^this. I loved those games and (almost) all the characters in them.
I agree, except for Juhani. Just didn't like her.
