My PC is old.
I've upgraded it several times, and now I have a semi-decent rig.
The PC has:
Raedon X1600 Pro
2.8 Ghz Processor
No sound card
lots of hard drive space
Windows XP Home
No PCI-Express, so no upgrades anymore.
***EDIT***
I also have:
2 gigs of RAM
1400x900 resolution monitor (19 inch, 2ms)

I like FPS's, I'm planning to get Left 4 Dead. I can play the whole Orange Box on Very High/Very High. So my question is: What new games can I play that will not look like crap?
I was considering Fallout 3, but I don't want to buy it unless I can at least play it on medium, which I think is impossible on my card.

Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated. Also, does anyone know where I can check if I can run games online w/ my current card?

If you can play the Orange Box games on high, then you can play just about anything else out there. I say "just about" because there are games like Crysis with stupidly high system requirements out there. You need to read the "recommended system" sticker on the boxes carefully with a computer like that.

I'd highly recommend the Unreal and Unreal Tournament series of games. They are a blast to play as FPS's and should play great on your rig if you can play Valve games.

well its kind of hard to tell if you can, because there are more to our specs than just video card, processor and hard drive space.
If you could list:
Amount of RAM and speed
Resolution of Monitor
and Possibly Mobo

I say get a sound card, doesn't matter if its realy cheap.
It'll take that little bit of pressure off your processor and give you higher frames.

You could still get a "high" end card for an AGP port, that can even run dx10 but they're kind of expensive:

Good Luck :)

Red Alert 2. And Half Life 2, as long as you have DirectX 9c. I can run mine on maximum settings if the resolution is less than 800x600.

It's not a new game or very good looking but if you can find Red Faction 2 for PC i'd give that a whirl.

Far Cry has pretty low Minimum Specs, too

Ok, I can play all of the orange box at 1400x900 resolution w/out a problem, including Half Life 2, Episode 2. Sorry but a lot of these games are pretty old. Good ideas, though. I'm thinking about getting CSS.

One last question: Is there a website besides "Can you RUN it?" that can check compatibility w/ new games?

I'm thinking about getting Fallout 3, but I have absolutely no idea if I can even play it.

I've also gotten remarks on upgrades, which card is the best, w/ power and price?

FPS
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.
It's free, just remember to patch it to the last version because the original release was released unfinished.

this is the website I use: http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest

and the "best" card would depend on how much money you're willing to spend on it,
Dont know if you checked it out but that card I linked earlier is dx10 and pretty good as far as AGP goes.

It all comes down to what you're willing to spend.

There is this [http://www.yougamers.com/?mainnavi=true]. It's alright, but it depends on Java, and sometimes crashes for me. It's alright, however.
