Good games make you sad

It's a strange irony that after a truly good game, I usually feel sad. I just finished Dragon Age: Origins and it's 3am so forgive me if I ramble, but I felt really sad after beating it. I am going to miss not hearing anymore stupid jokes from Alistair, or hear Morrigan get into another fight with the dog, its just funny how the best games actually leave you feeling sad and empty when you beat them.

A bad game makes you happy that you unlocked the achievement for beating it. A good game makes you feel a sense of triumph at the act of beating it. A great game makes you sad when the credits roll.

I definitely feel sadder about this game than most because I know a sequel probably isn't coming, and this is probably the true ending. I hope there is no sequel, because the game had a good ending (Depending on your actions) but it does add to the feeling.

What do you guys think? Do games with great stories/characters make you feel sad when they end? Which ones?

BTW this probably isn't the place for EA rage, but if they make Bioware whore out this franchise into a trilogy or something, I will freaking carpet-bomb them.

Persona 3's ending made me cry for reasons I shouldn't have to explain.

Also, Skies of Arcadia saddens me because it's plain that the adventure goes on, yet NO SEQUEL! RAGE.

I'm always saddened that I could only ever have one first playthrough of Okami. I can play it again and again and again, but it'll never have the same magic as that first time. Once those credits started rolling, oh how sad I was...

*sigh*

Can't really relate to feeling sad at the end of Asscreed and I don't know what S.T.A.L.K.E.R is, but it's nice to know that I am not the only person who has this reaction to a really great game.

(Asscreed I fell into my "Felt triumphant for beating it" middle category)

Final Fantasy VII. The ending scene with Red XIII is always a way to make me salute in respect. XD
Don't get me started on FF7, it only made it worse to have the characters' adventures continue in horrifyingly bad spin off game(s) that had NONE of the charm of the original.

Seriously, Dirge of Cerberus, what the HELL did we do to deserve that!?

Advent Children was OK I guess...

I think that it should be freaking illegal to end a game in a cliffhanger unless you have literally finished making the sequel before the first one comes out. I really liked that old xbox game Advent Rising (I know, I must be the only freaking person on god's green earth to like that game, I've heard it all before) and they ended on a cliffhanger, it was slated to be a trilogy, and it's sequel never saw the light of day due to it failing spectacularly in sales.

Ooo, another one I should mention was Golden Sun, after finishing it (it and the sequel, I almost consider them one game they are so tied together) I felt really really sad that it had to end, and now they are making another for the DS! I am glad they chose to make it about Isaac's son though, Isaac's adventures ended at the end of the second game.

After playing those games, whenever I play a game where the main character has no default name and I have to come up with something to name him, I choose Isaac.

I find that only bad games make me sad.

Due to the whole wasting my life aspect.

Really? You have NEVER found a game that you were sad to see end?

Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway.

I Just. Want. More.

Oh well, the newly unlocked authentic mode will have to do. (BTW: Authentic mode is a whole new game. Same story, but in no way the same.)

STALKER made me feel crappy afterwards, largely due to my actions near the end of the game. I was woefully ill-prepared for the incredibly dangerous enemies in Pripyat, and nearly died at the Red Forest several times. Having only two medkits, five bandages, and a semi-broken G36, I sprinted as fast as I could past Monolith, Military, and mutant hostiles, all the way into the bowels of the NPP until I reached what I had wanted this entire time - the Wish Granter.

Then I turned to stone. *The End*

Took me a while to find out there are multiple endings, and two where you don't even go near the Wish Granter. Made me feel shitty, to say the least.

I agree, Authentic mode is awesome. But then again, no more daring sprints in a hail of MG42 bullets.

The only ones I can think of are the ending to the first Kingdom Hearts and FF9 until the very end of the end movie

Sorry for late response...

Why would I be sad it's over, if there's that fancy "New Game" button on the main menu.

I'd agree if I could wipe my memory and restart the game from scratch at will, but I can't, and much like seeing a good movie, doing it over again is never nearly as great as that first time.

There's a bit of truth in that yeah. Although, when really good games make me sad, it's mostly because the ending is meant to be sad. *cough* Shadow of the Colossus *cough*

Good games make me sad cause I know they are rare. Not many games make you cry when they end. Not because the end is sad. But because it's over. The adventure is over. And you want more of that universe but you know you must wait till the sequel. Is worse when there is no sequel.
PS: I noticed no games from major publishers/developers make me sad.
