Not really... A separate mic for the pc you often need to put down on the desk, which can very quickly give a ton of background noise since the mic has to be more sensitive. Headset mics can give great quality sound as long as you set it up right, and don't get a cheap ass 10 dollar one.AstroSmash said:Get headphones + a mic. If one breaks, you won't have to replace the whole thing, and qualitywise, you will be leagues ahead of every single headset out there.
Weird...I've always had good quality mics on my headsets. (or at least good enough.) And I've had...3 different ones by now. First one was from creative and cost me around 30 euro's, second one was a trust one I believe and cost me 20, the third one I have now cost me 30 again and is from trust as well.AstroSmash said:You can get one that clips onto your shirt for about 3-5 dollars and it's just about the same as any other mic.
In terms of sound quality, headsets are pure trash. Absolute rubbish. The worst offenders are super expensive gaming headsets that have the sound quality of really cheap 10-30 dollar headphones (while costing more than 100)
A friend gave me a pair of Turtle Beach Ear Force PX5 headphones and they're excellent. Unfortunately they're out of your price range.Moderated said:snip
Eh, I prefer my Sennheiser HD 419 for audio only. He asked for a headset though, and wasn't exactly specific. So it's hard to tell how much audio quality matters to him.AstroSmash said:It's not about the mic. My laptop has a good mic build into it. It's about the sound quality, which is shitty and overpriced.
For comparison, you can get 60$ Grados SR1s, which are low grade audiophile headphones. They will last much longer than headsets and the sound quality is something completely different.
