Not all licensed games are bad. I have enjoyed Toy Story 3 immensely, even if I have no one to play it with. I also really liked the GBA version of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and have heard good things about the PS2 version.

What licensed games have you actually enjoyed/ found to be not all that bad?

Edit: Just to be clear, I mean games that are directly based on books/ movies.

Spider-Man 2

Still some of the best city exploration to date, webslinging is my prefered method of travel. It also follows the movie rather loosely, letting you do a load of side-quests with characters that were never in the movie. The combat was pretty solid too. Overall, not just a good game, but an excellent licensed game.

The GBC Harry Potter games were pretty good as well. An RPG style that stuck loosely to the story, but was much fun. I also remember Lion King on the Genesis to be pretty good. Same with The Little Mermaid, even if that was a bit on the easy side.

None.
Sorry, I feel that they are rushed out, with little time to flesh the product into a decent game.

Batman: Arkham Asylum is frickin' awesome. It's the first batman game that I've ever played where you actually feel like Batman, and I've been playing them since the NES.

The X-Men Legends and Ultimate Alliance games are also fantastic.

EDIT:

Ooh, I also forgot Return Of The King. That was a good Hack'n'Slash and was so much fun on Co-Op.

There have been a lot of Star Wars games that have been great as well. Games Like Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast, and Jedi Academy, and the Star Wars: Battlefront series was good times.

I think the OP means games that are based on movies (at least that's what I think he/she means).

I see, I just assumed any licensed media, be it books, comics, or movies.

KotOR, Jedi Knight and TIE Fighter come to mind.

Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights are technically licensed as well, though perhaps not in the way you meant.

Tons of good licensed games if you want to be general. The Dungeons and Dragons/AD&D franchise has had more winners than losers overall I think. Then of course you have Star Wars and Star Trek both of which have produced everything from major successes to reeking turds. For novels, games like "The Witcher" were pretty good. With tabletop games the Warhammer 40k franchise has been kicking some major booty with it's "Dawn Of War" games.

As far as direct movie-to-game releases, I haven't played a lot of them, there are a few cases where I've felt that a game probably would have had it's ratings raised by a point from most reviewers if it wasn't a tie in game. I played the Beowulf game based on the movie, and while it wasn't great, it wasn't quite the massive turd bomb it got called either.

Also Pro-Wrestling games seem to have a decent following, and while mostly shown on TV/pay per view, I think they are similar to movie-based products given that while not a big player of them, a lot of the more "recent" ones like Smackdown Vs. Raw seem to follow the year's storyline pretty closely.

If only the same could be said for their movies...

I picked up 2010 FIFA World Cup over the summer, and found it to be quite enjoyable. I didn't play their Premier League game, but I'll strongly consider giving it a go this year.

Mine have all been named. Spider-Man 2, Transformers: War for Cybertron and Toy Story 3. As for Toy Story 3, I didn't like the movie (I just can't get into CGI movies) but love the game (I picked it up for 19.99 so my nieces would have something to play and I'm hooked on it now).

True, but then again I think their big problem with their videos/movies is that they started doing those when they began seriously aiming at a younger audience, starting with their film-based games and the like. I think their transition to a younger audience has been their undoing when they should have kept focusing on an older crowd of college age+ gamers with only the occasional kid being involved. If they hadn't gone chasing the money, and opted for stability I think the franchise would be in better shape now, and the movies and videos (if they even still did the latter) would have been better. Their video games were relatively successful because I don't think they were specifically being aimed at a younger audience.

That said, if they could get the money together, I think the D&D Liscence has the material for a decent number of good movies, it's just that they failed to do it right like we saw with some of the first super hero movies by companies like Marvel and DC (remember the "Captain America" movie?). After all D&D has seen a vast number of novels written over a long period of time, and those novels involved a lot of established writers, or ones who used these novels as a springboard to become established. Picking the right ones would of course be the challenge, but the point is that with a good eye they definatly have the material.

-DISCLAIMER:
YEAH, I KNOW this is a "BUMP", but it just so happens I wanted to create a thread about this, and searched for it and it just happens than someone else already had that idea, thus I am posting here to contribute with it, If I havent "BUMPED" this thread, then some smartass was going to come saying something along the lines of "OMFG NOOB SOMEONE ELSE ALREADY CREATED THIS THREAD SEARCH THE NEXT TIME OR GET BAN GG"-END DISCLAIMER

Sorry about that, but it just so happens than I get into this situation in pretty much every forum I have gone in my life, and this crap always happens and I get blammed for bumping/duplicating a thread one way or another, even thougt I have no choice, I hope this forums will be able to understand or otherwise at least advice me what I am suppused to do next time I find myself on this situation.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TL;DR I bumped a thread and I will contribute to it:

OK now to the post itself. I personally have encountered a fair number of good licenced games, those are the ones that I consider at least good (a few of them would even get a bit more than just "good" IMO)

Its mainly compesed by Looney Tunes games, like:

Bugs Bunny: lost in time:Decent platform game, Althougt I tried to get into it again, Its just plays weird for me, but I really enjoined it as a kid).

Bugs Bunny & Taz: Time Busters:A VERY good game, also platformer, plus it has 2 player coop (althougt I barely used it, but its still worth mentioning). And if you want to play alone then its no problem, you just control Bugs/Taz one at a time. Also tried to get into it recently, and unlike the previous game I actually was able to enojoy it and most importatly FINISH IT ONCE AND FOR ALL! To my suprise one or two levels towards the end were pretty difficult, didnt expect that from a looney tunes game. Althougt I should probably have done so considerating the following game...

SHEEP RAIDERS: A very unique game and pretty freaking hard at times too, specially towards the end. Its about getting/stole sheep and get them to the designated area in the level. Sounds easy, but its a bit far from the truth, REALLY far, theres a lot of level hazards, and you get a lot of ACME artifacts to get around them. Unlike the other two, its more of a puzzle game althougt it does have some platforming here and there. Very good for those people who like challenges and that good feeling when you have finally resolved a complicated puzzle. I recently played it (Yeah, I replayed most of my ps1 games alright), and even thougt I am 16 years old, it was pretty hard to figure otu some of the puzzles, in no way I could have done some of this stuff as my 6 yers old me, its ridiculous. But I still enjoined it a lot.

Oh yeah forgot to mention all of those games are in 3D, in what 3D was on those times... lol

Oh yeah there was also a racing game as well, it was okey, but I far prefer those games mentioned abode.

I think that covers the looney tunes games..

And now for the other half of good licensed games IMO:
Spongebob games:

Supersponge: Decent 2d platformer with nice music, in particular, this one is freaking good for a spongebob game, admit it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahHTfP-JE1E

--- Starting from here we leave ps1 games and move on to the ps2---

Spongebob Battle for Bikini Buttom: I belive to not only be merely a good licenced game but probably one of, if not THE, best one of them. A very enjoyable mario 64- like adventure game, but with spongebob and company. enough said. Also it lasts a good while.

Spongebob the movie the game: in very few words, its "more of the same" of that of Battle for Bikini Buttom, but based on the movie this time (duh). Almost as good as BFBB, only its a bit shorter (QUITE shorter) than the previous game. Then again, this one IS based on the movie, so its not like they could have extend it so much withit the movie events.

Well, thats it. Honorable mention goes to the Toy Story game on the ps1. That one was cool.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All of those games cleary prove, In my book, than the whole "OMFG ALL LICENCED GAMES SUCK" is very wrong. If I count all the games here, I would get 5-6 good, some even excellent, licenced games, and those are just the ones I personally know. Theres probably more around there, and a couple I might be forgetting too.
